2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Hmm something tells me that Shavers committing to UA could indicate to me that Strong is in the driver's seat for Duvernay. Someone please tell me I'm wrong

Ok, you're wrong.

Shavers, I'm told, has been in love with Bama for quite some time. Nobody else was really in this one once Bama began to show interest. Strong could host a free bbq in Shavers' front lawn for a month and he'd still go to Bama.

It's tough right now for many Texas fans to realize that Texas is not a top dog right now. All these kids were toddlers the last  time we were good. Sadly The University of Texas is just another name to most of them. The formula is simple for Strong now. WIN GAMES

Hey guys , thought I'd share with you some info I just received, Everyone is really excited about the offense and the team and coaching staff alike feel like this is a conference championship contender. My buddy told me that he'd put the number at 80% Devin commits to Texas by the end of the month . Also, don't be surprised if Jordan Elliott gets serious playing time he may be a starter by the end of the year. I know I haven't been around as much but it's because I've been really busy. I hope all is well with you guys and I know it's late but man that Baylor stuff was crazy wasn't it . Briles was literally the king around there. Now we are the only major school in the country that can say we run his offense

Good to see you back posting again DBook. That Duvernay tidbit jives with what we have heard. I am curious to see how his TCU visit goes this weekend or whenever he decides to take it.

I thought this gem was interesting.

Higdon:

Again, I am ONLY following this as it pertains to Texas and recruiting.....so here goes......

I just had a call from someone who filled me in on some pretty interesting stuff. The entire bring Briles back deal is a ploy to try and keep recruits. They are hoping that some of the recruits would cave/enroll thinking Briles would get the one-year suspension, but the powers that be know they aren’t or can’t bring him back. Also, Baylor has already reached out to three people regarding the head coaching job, two of them are Dino Babers and Todd Graham. I was told Grobe would or could be the next Baylor AD.

Several sites reported that assistant coaches at Baylor are telling '16 signees that Briles is going to be back. It's pretty obvious what is going on here. Baylor is trying to give the perception that Briles is coming back so they can save their '16 class.

Just a dirty ass program really. Not only are they not releasing these kids, but they are trying to deceive them to prevent the '16 signees from leaving.

That's so slimy trying to trick them to enroll just so they can block their transfers when they realize briles isn't coming back I hope their parents are smarter than that

I hope this gets discussed by the larger sports press as an example of how the interests of student athletes are often subordinated to decisions about the interests of the football program.

The Baylor story is quickly becoming one not of Title XI or compliance, but one of the ethics of the regents and senior administrators at Baylor.

That the university president, AD and head football coach were let go is one indication of how Baylor operates. That the conscious decision to lie to recruits by the new head coach was made as one of his first decisions, shows he is as ethically challenged as were the previous individuals. That none of the staff seems to have a problem with lying to the recruits to try to influence to do something they wouldn't do if they were told the truth is also very telling.

The corruption within the Baylor programs seems unchanged.

As of late, I’ve had trouble getting much information directly from the Fowler family regarding Erick Fowler’s qualification status. I took that as a sign that the situation may be bleak.

However, I just got off the phone with someone close to the family who said that the family is still optimistic that Erick can meet the qualification requirements. I am also told that the family is expecting his SAT results to come in any day now…possibly today.

I have been told Erick’s GPA and if the number I’m being told is accurate, qualification certainly sounds reasonably achievable as long as he receives even a decent score on the SAT. I should note though that a source at the school mentioned Erick had a number of absences this past year. I cannot say for certain how or if that may affect things, but I would surmise that if he achieves the GPA and test score needed then that would suffice. – (Super K)

I hope this is true because a person I know who is very close to the situation continues to tell me it will be a miracle if he makes it in. I love miracles though.

– UPDATE (7:31 pm): I just spoke with Erick Fowler. He let me know that he did receive his test scores today. He said he spoke to Texas today and based on those conversations he believes he is “good to goâ€. Fowler said that all that remains for him to do is to submit his final transcript to UT along with his test score. He noted that after hearing about his scores the Texas coaches were excited and expressed as much to him.

Fowler said he’s hopeful that he will be able to report sometime before the second summer session begins. All this comes straight from Erick so it certainly gives fans reason to feel optimistic. However, I would caution our readers to keep in mind that we have no access to any academic information so we are not able to independently verify anything. Additionally, we all saw what happened last year in the Lampkin situation.

There is reason to be optimistic but I’d save the confetti until the star linebacker is on campus.  â€“ (Super K)
