2016 Recruiting - Week #15-23

With the numbers on hand RB & WR is a position of not much need. Be highly selective unless attrition strikes.

Caught up with a friend of mine today. He's been at a practice or two and has been speaking with a non-UT athlete who is training this off-season with our team members.

Raves about Swoopes' arm strength. Throws rockets. Worries that he's getting to used to just zipping everything and not using some touch on the ball. Either way, says Swoopes is miles ahead of where he was last year this time.

Feels comfortable with where Heard is. Says Heard uses touch on the ball and allows WRs to have some slack because of it. With Swoopes, you're either at the mark when you're supposed to be or it's an incompletion.

Said much of the hubbub about Swoopes is due to the cannon arm that he's putting on display. It's impressive to many, but it can't get you into trouble if you're clueless about when to put touch on the ball.

Said the three-step drop and roll-outs are what we'll see a ton of this year. Our OL will not have to hold their blocks thus will probably look much better than last year. Worries that our BEST OL is a frosh and technically should still be in HS. Very excited about his potential though.

Says we'll look more like Baylor this year than Texas of last year with our offense. Very few progressions for the QBs to make should create more success.

With all that said, despite predicting improvement, he said he only sees six wins this year.

Don't shoot the messenger.

I am just passing this along .....

This doesn't sound like a player Charlie would want.

According to The Advocate, Lealaimatafao was charged with simple battery and simple robbery, a felony, after allegedly beating "an unnamed male victim unconscious and then punched the victim's girlfriend in the face with a closed fist" on Tuesday.

Looks like UT or Florida

Florida Gators football coach Jim McElwain has always been known for using the tight end a lot in his pro-style offense, but he’s missing that big tight end at Florida right now.

That should change after this recruiting cycle and one of his targets is tight end Peyton Aucoin (6-5, 255, New Orleans, LA Brother Martin) who now has a top two after receiving an offer from the Gators.

“My top two schools are Florida and Texas,†Aucoin said of his recruitment. “Coach [Tim] Skipper from Florida offered me a few weeks ago and he tells me that they are in need of a big tight end so they say that I have a chance to come in play early.â€

Aucoin visited the Texas Longhorns in April and last weekend he got the chance to see the Gainesville campus and also meet McElwain.

“I visited Florida last weekend and I met Coach McElwain and sat down and talked with him,†he said of his recent visit to Gainesville. “He was talking to me about the need for tight ends in his offense and he said that they have a lot of spread offense tight ends and that he’s looking to bring in bigger guys that can block in the pro-style offense.â€

The Louisiana native had the chance to get a campus tour and he likes where the Gators are heading in the future.

“I really enjoyed my visit to Florida,†Aucoin said. “I really liked the school and the facilities. They are about to renovate everything there with the three-year plan they have going on there now. I really like it over there a lot.â€

Recently the Florida coaching staff has been talked about a lot because of their personality and that was something Aucoin noticed as well.

“I really like the coaching staff there because when speaking with them they are honest,†he said of his impression of the staff. “They are very straight up and they told me how much they really like my film.â€

The Gators likely won’t have to wait much longer for a decision from Aucoin as he plans to make one sometime in July.

“I want to make a decision before my senior season starts,†Aucoin said. “I’m going to visit Texas in July and then after that I will make my choice.â€

INSIDERS TAKE: Aucoin is a true pro-style tight end and is someone that has been missing at Florida for years now. McElwain knows he needs to add size at the position and Aucoin is a big target for the Florida Gators coaching staff.

Good article on the way Charlie recruits. This is my favorite part:

Vital: When you look at the way things are being done now, what would reassure Texas fans is that last year, when everyone said that Charlie Strong had an in-state recruiting problem, he still signed a top 10 class (Scout.com had the Longhorns 7th). He has proven over the past 2 to 3 NFL drafts that he has an eye for talent and developing talent

Recruiting analysts: Different approach might be nerve-wracking for Texas fans

Texas has six oral commitments for the 2016 signing class, one of the smallest groups in the Big 12.

Gabe Brooks, Scout.com’s recruiting analyst for Dallas-Fort Worth, and Ahmard Vital, Scout.com’s Houston-area recruiting analyst, discussed Texas and some of its class with The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday.

On Arlington Lamar quarterback Shane Buechele, one of the first to commit to the Longhorns:

Brooks: When you watch him, you can tell he’s got really good leadership abilities. The receivers and the linemen and the guys he plays with really follow his lead. … He’s got adequate size, and he’s very accurate. I think that has to be his best quality as a passer is his accuracy.  Some people think his arm strength isn’t what it should be, but it’s adequate. He can make all the throws you need him to make, and he’s very good on touch passes.

On Manvel’s Reggie Hemphill, who, with Collin Johnson, are the two receivers in Texas’ class of commitments so far.

Vital: I’ve been watching Reggie for some years now and he’s just so explosive. When you look at him on film, and on the field — I’ve probably seen 8 to 10 of his games live over the last couple of years — he just makes those plays that make your jaw drop wide open and you’re like, ‘Who would have been able to make that catch?’ He comes in and out of breaks really well, runs great routes, and he just gets his hands on the football.

On Texas commitment and Arlington Bowie lineman Tope Imade:

Brooks: Personally, I love him. I’ve covered him for more than a year. I did something on him last May, back before he had any offers, just because his size really stands out to you. … He’s one who’s going to keep developing once they get him on campus. To say that for a guy who’s 6-5, 327, going into his senior year, that tells you that his ceiling should be pretty high. I like him as a giant guard-type. He does have the length to potentially play outside. He’ll need to work on his footwork and his lateral mobility. But I really think his best fit is as a big guard.

On if Texas fans should be concerned with its small class:

Brooks: I don’t think having six commitments right now is anything to worry about, because this is a staff that seems to do evaluations different from the previous [staff}, and Tope Imade is a perfect example of that. He’s one that the old Texas regime probably wouldn’t have gone after. The old Texas regime seemed to always go after the elite as early as possible and were already targeted as elite as young kids. … I think that this staff does a very good job of identifying guys that it likes regardless of what anyone else thinks, and guys who you can see developing physically and technically over a few years.

Vital: When you look at the way things are being done now, what would reassure Texas fans is that last year, when everyone said that Charlie Strong had an in-state recruiting problem, he still signed a top 10 class (Scout.com had the Longhorns 7th). He has proven over the past 2 to 3 NFL drafts that he has an eye for talent and developing talent, to make sure, not only will they be solid players for Texas, but beyond that. But, when you sign more than half your class in the last three weeks of the season, that’s nerve-wracking for most Texas fans cause that’s not what they’re used to.

On if there’s someone who would be a good fit for Texas out there

Brooks: Southlake Carroll cornerback Obi Eboh is really position-versatile. He’s a 4-star guy for us and has been since last summer. He’s extremely long, great wingspan … Texas’ staff seems to like big corners, and this is a kid who could be a big corner or he also has experience playing safety and Texas and the type of defense they run, they use that hybrid nickel a ton, and he’s a guy who could definitely play that hybrid nickel spot.

Vital: Jeffrey McCulloch, linebacker from Aldine Davis, is definitely one that Texas is targeting pretty hardcore, along with Dontavious Jackson out of Alief Elsik. Those are two linebackers they really like. Dontavious is a little bit thicker than McCullouch is. McCullouch’s a little more of your lean, hybrid, can-do-all-types-of-things linebacker. Just really plays fast. Dontavious is a bruiser who will hit you extremely hard.

The title is appropriate for certain Texas fans. Good find.

I could understand going after Trey LMFAO if it was his first incident. It wasn't, kid can't stay out of trouble.
