2015 versus 2016 recruiting: A little perspective

I posted this another board thought I would share here as well. 

Seems to be a lot of panic over recruiting right now so I wanted to take a look at where we were last year as compared today. Now I am not saying that the results will be equal come February 2016 but I did want to give a little perspective.

Hope you are right on a late surge. However at some positions the top players are already commited. Reling on decommits and second line players might not get the job done.

Not going to lie, the whole waiting until late into the game to reel them in scares me a bit. After last year I have faith in the staff to do so, but it still scares me.

Yeah who knows if this strategy is viable for long term success however Strong is going to live or die doing it his way.

I think this strategy will work out better in the long term than locking in guys before their junior year. Unless a kid is signing with his "dream" team, they are sure to change their minds if they have too long to think about it, especially with coaches still recruiting them after they've committed. To me, unless you've signed the dotted line, you haven't committed to anyone.

Exactly. I never panic about recruits who commit really early. Too often, they de-commit and end up elsewhere. Unless, like you said, a kid is committed to their dream school (Ehlinger/TX). Strong and Co. finished strong last year.  I believe they can do the same this year.

My question is 'How did Charlie Strong's recruiting tactics at Louisville differ from those of other mid-major coaches?" We know his recruiting tactis differ greatly than those of highly successful P5 coaches.

College football is a game of evolution. Rarely is a strategic or tactical change revloutionary. We are predicating expectations of Coach Strong's recruiting on his ability to revolutionize P5 recruiting by adopting mid-major practices. Is that reasonable?

If you want a successful mid-major program, you emulate other successful mid-major programs and measure yourself against the results of mid-major programs. If you want a successful P5 program,do you also emulate successful mid-major programs and measure your success against that of mid-major programs?

My personal measure of Coach Strong's recruiting is his ability to get the recruits he wants while expending no more than a moderate level of resources. Let's not forget that recruiting takes resources. The more time Coach Strong has to spend evaluating candidates to fill the roles envisioned for prospects who have rejected Coach Strong's previous offers takes away from time and energy Coach Strong could expend developing the program.

I'm not sold that the key to success for a P5 program is to pattern itself after mid-major schools.
