Who actually starting recruiting Shackleford? Was it Mattox ? Was he even on Strong's radar?

Shackelford's measurements, 40 time and so on aren't that spectacular. He's not a camp player.

With that said, he's a damn good player. I've been saying since May we should offer Shackelford. He's the type player Mack would have passed on and he would have been a 3 year starter at K-State kicking our ass.
If Shackelford can play center at a high level then he's really a great pickup. I found out how valuable a center can be when Espinosa was lost for last season.

If it is indeed a flip and it's at a position of need then that leads me to believe it's either Chris Daniels or Jordan Elliot.
Nah, it's Pat Hudson.......ok, I'm done wishing.

Chris Daniels sounds like the winner to me.

I wouldn't take a commitment from Jordan Elliott unless it was February 3rd

Poster on 247 just posted a pic of Dontavious Jackson from today. It's him wearing Longhorn shorts. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to attach the image. Maybe you computer literate folks can figure it out.

PER 6 FIGS

It’s closing time.

And Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin wants to be the one they sing about when they say, ‘I know who I want to take me home’ on National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

It’s time to get real about where things stand. It has now been 48 hours since Texas’ big recruiting weekend finished up and I’ve been working all of my sources on what they’re hearing regarding some of the Aggies’ top targets after spending three days in Austin.

I’ve talked to multiple kids, parents and coaches that were on the 40 Acres and they all gave Charlie Strong and his staff glowing reviews about the weekend. In fact, one parent, who’s kid likely won’t be attending Texas, but thoroughly enjoyed his time on campus this weekend, gave the experience a “10 out of 10.â€

With that said, it’s pretty simple - It is on Sumlin how Texas A&M finishes out the 2016 class.

We’re going to find out real quick how good of a closer he is because it’s not the fact the guys likeBrandon Jones and Jeffrey McCulloch of the world don’t want to play for John Chavis in the SEC, it’s about the trust in the head man.

Here are a few facts to digest: Jeffrey McCulloch was going to announce for A&M at the Under Armour Game. Brandon Jones had been leaning towards A&M before Kyler Murray took off for Oklahoma. Eric Cuffee was a silent commit to A&M all throughout the fall but his parents are not even going to accompany him to College Station for his official visit at this moment.

Those aren’t issues with positions coaches or coordinators. Those are issues with the head man in charge for A&M to go from being the team to beat to the point we are at right now...which is there’s a lot of evidence suggesting the Ags are trailing for them all.

However, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there from extremely credible sources close to all these recruitments. Also, the fact remains that Sumlin has his lone in-home visit with Jones and will have Cuffee and McCulloch on campus that final weekend before National Signing Day.

So that’s why I’m putting it on him. All these kids know what Chavis can do for them from a development and scheme standpoint. However, can Sumlin sell there’s stability, that he’s a player’s coach and that he’ll be there past next season?

A&M got worked during the dead period. The news that surfaced during that stretch was nothing short of devastating and there was mass confusion surrounding the circumstances in Aggieland. You can only tell a kid so much over a direct message or phone call. Closing time happens in person. Face-to-face.

We’ve seen things sort of begin to trend back in the favor of A&M with the commitment of Clyde Chriss, and there will be more good news by week’s end, but this is a crucial time for this staff.

Can they counter the spin coming out of Austin? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

If I’m A&M, there are key selling points I make on each of the three top defensive targets; Cuffee, Jones and McCulloch.

First, with McCulloch, I don’t even focus on football. It’s all about how he’s going to get to law school. His academics are more important than his future on the gridiron. If he ends up with with an opportunity to play in the league, that would be a tremendous life-time achievement. However, I think his goal of becoming a lawyer supersede everything. It’s that important to him. Trust me when I say A&M is still very much in the picture. After talking to Jeff, his coach and mother at length over the past few days, I can tell you all this... the entire McCulloch family isn’t paying to spend the last weekend in College Station to waste anyone’s time. That experience will dictate his final decision. If he decides to scale back the visit length or cancel the trip all together then we know what that means.

Second, with Jones, who’s one of my favorites kids ever to cover, it’s all about getting to league and having a coaching staff that can fill the void of his father tragically passing away. Texas and Baylor have done a tremendous job making up ground on A&M by focusing on those two factors. I’ve confirmed with Jones as early as today that both Big 12 schools are not his leader as some outlets have suggested. However, I listed Baylor as a 'dark horse' for a reason. Art Briles is likely his favorite head coach out of all the finalists. A&M is trying to get him back on campus for one last look but his decision is still very much in the air.

Third, with Cuffee, you have to get mom and dad back in the boat. There’s little chance he goes against the grain with neither of them supporting his final decision. If he shows up to College Station without either parent you might as well send him back to Waco. I’m not sure what happened during Sumlin’s in-home visit for him to open things back up but it’s on the head coach to fix those issues if he wants to sign the Under Armour All-American.

Look things might be trending away from A&M, and I get there will be skeptics of my point-of-view, and I’m fine with that, but as I’ve clearly shown throughout each one of these recruitments, I’m very aware of what’s going on behind the scenes with each of them.

A&M still has a shot to land all three All-Americans.

So Sumlin, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.†If you want to succeed, you have to make that “other beginning†Texas’ and have recruits put the Longhorns in the rear-view mirror because it’s closing time..

Zach Shackelford seems to know a few things we dont (go figure) -

“I think Texas [ BULLETIN BOARD ] fans need to kind of just wait this month out because some things are going to happen.  It’s going to be a good class to say the least.â€

I think LJH announcing a couple of days before NSD is strategically planned out. He is going to be the first huge domino to get the final push for momentum going into NSD.

All speculation of course.
