Not a bad finish. It looks like more are predicting the Jackson ship has sailed.
Nahlin calls it sort of a mutual parting of the ways.  Related somewhat to Elliott.  As it appears increasingly unlikely we will ever see Elliott, thus the long rumored package deal wont happen.  Of that group, Chris Brown is one who possibly could still make it, we will see how it goes with the other safeties.

Here is Nahlin's finish to get to a class size of 25 (currently 13) --

RB Kyle Porter

RB Devwah Whaley (true coin flip)

WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey (lock)

OL Zach Shackelford

TE Irvin Smith

DT Stephon Taylor

DT Chris Daniels

LB Erick Fowler

LB Jeffrey McCulloch

DB Eric Cuffee (lock)

DB Brandon Jones

DB Damarkus Acy

He adds that you make room for any of Patrick Hudson, Deandre Christmas-Giles or Jordan Elliott.

One other tidbit -- Longhorn recruits don't think DJax will make it
personally, i don't see us getting both porter and whaley.  i only see us getting one.  i would like to see another DT in that group; sacrifice the RB spot.

So the ship really has sailed in regard to Jackson. FSU bound?

I guess. There are a couple possibilities for him but he does seem to get along with Brewster well (also visits Bama and Gator soon)

Seems a little odd given how our depth at ILB vanished so quickly

Here is what Nahlin says -- ".... Texas isn't in love with him like they are with Shark and Fowler...."

Strong seems to know exactly what he wants in the middle, for this specific conference

If he says Fowler can do it then he probably can

Here is Nahlin on Fowler -- "Fowler's an ILB as his greatest fit.  He's a guy you blitz from every angle, sort of like what the staff did with Malik at times last year.  Fowler could play Fox but you'd like to see more length.

Shark could definitely play Fox -- he's so vicious at the POA."

A top 15 class would be a huge success. I wonder what Strong could do with results and W's on the field?
I think in terms of recruiting strong is right up there with Harbaugh and Sweeney so if he could sell a winning program that could be a downright scary sight

Brainiacs Andrew King on Swervin Irvin --

– Irvin Smith: The recruitment of Brother Martin (LA) Texas A&M TE commit Irvin Smith is far from over. I’ve said previously that if Jake Spavital was let go at TAMU I’d expect Smith to eventually decommit from the Aggies. I still feel good about that statement but Smith is going to see who Kevin Sumlin hires as his new offensive coordinator first.

Smith also has official visits planned to Alabama and Memphis before NSD. I’ve been told Texas has put themselves in a very nice spot with Smith due to Coaches Jeff Traylor and Brick Haley, but also with some help from his teammate Texas TE commit Peyton Aucoin who has been big on the recruitment of all the Louisiana guys in 2016. There is still a lot to go on in Smith’s recruitment right now but it is one to watch as Texas plans to take 2 TE’s in 2016 and Smith seems to be the most likely candidate to be the 2nd TE.

Pet TFB on DL recruiting and how they fit into our D scheme:

Currently, Texas’ projected starters are Bryce Cottrell at SDE, Paul Boyette at NT, and Poona Ford at WDE. Behind those players lies a depth issue, as unproven contributors like Quincy Vasser, Alex Norman, and Chris Nelson lie in wait to either step up or fall behind incoming freshmen.

So, where do these players align and how may it relate to 2016 recruiting targets? If the intent is to preserve the current Flex Front 3-3-5, fans will likely see Ford and Nelson align at 4 and 3-technique (over/under shifted), Boyette and Norman at 0 (+ shade) and 1-technique, and Cottrell and Vasser at 4 and 5-technique or wider on the strong side, however that may be determined going forward. Considering those spots, Texas is in good position to sign DL that may fit very well. I’ll start with the top of my personal wish list, whether they’re already committed or not. On the weak side, Stephon Taylor is the ‘war daddy’ many fans have their collective fingers crossed for, as he looks to be an immediate-impact contributor at the 4 and 3-technique. At nose, big Gerald Wilbon looks to also be an immediate impact contributor and may find himself on the 2-deep early playing the 0 and 1-technique. On the strong side, Texas is better situated as both Malcolm Roach and Andrew Fitzgerald look to also impact the depth chart early at the 4 and 5-technique. Another player well-worth mentioning is D’Andre Christmas-Giles, who I believe can swing from nose to weak side end. The way I look at Christmas-Giles is to imagine Poona Ford with his size, a potential terror. Lastly, players like Chris Daniels and Michael Williams deserve mention, but my concern with them is whether they are as likely to provide impact early.

".....  If his family gets its way, Manor linebacker Erick Fowler will back out of his commitment to LSU and sign with Texas.

They just might get their wish.

Fowler plans to explore other schools before signing day, he says, and will visit Texas as part of a major recruiting weekend for the Longhorns on Jan. 15.

But first Fowler has a game to play, and he will join eight other Texans on the West squad for Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome. In practices, Fowler has worked at outside linebacker and defensive end, positions that Texas melds into the Fox, a hybrid of the two.

Fowler, the state’s No. 9 player on the American-Statesman’s Fabulous 55, grew up a fan of LSU and singed his family when he bypassed Texas and committed to the Tigers on June 13.

Do they hope he changes course?

“Of course,†Fowler said....."

If those guys want to play early, our depth chart has to look better than LSU's.

LSU has 4 sophomores already penciled into their 2016 2-deep at DT (4-man front)

On top of that, they have commits from 4-stars Edwin Alexander and Glen Logan*.  Plus it seems likely they get 5-star Rashard Lawrence and they still have a shot with 5-star Rashan Gary.  4-star Ross Blacklock was theirs too but he seems to have woken up to this reality and now will go TCU (or perhaps aggy).

I know the SEC loves DTs but this seems kinda crazy.  I have no doubt our recruiters have been pointing this out to Taylor and Giles.

*Side note - Logan is rumored as one of the UOVs we could see in January.  Dunno if we will pursue, but word is that there is a crack for us to squeeze through with him

Here's the deal on Crocco....

Evidently his twitter account got hacked. He tells me Texas hasn't officially offered him....  He's fairly upset, as you can imagine.
