I have a customer that said his brother is friends with Cumbie. Supposedly Cumbie told his brother CS had to win 9 games minimum to keep his job. I know it's probably a bunch of bs but I figured I would throw it out there. Hell its still the dead period so we need something to keep us busy.

Hopefully we are smarter than that.  We are supposed to be.

I do still wonder where Mike Perrin was the week from Cumbie to Gilbert.  He should have been present to give the head coach of the cashcow for an entire department whatever help and aid he may have needed.  But he was AWOL.   Next thing we know, Fenves is loading up his airplane.  No explanation was ever given for Perrin's delinquency. There is something there, but I dont have the dirt (yet).

Fowler and Jackson story from the Army Game

http://texas.247sports.com/Bolt/After-Army-Bowl-Texas-visits-up-next-for-Fowler-Jackson-Jr-42709272

".....The results from their first game together were tremendously positive.

If next weekend goes as Charlie Strong hopes, two of the stars of Saturday’s game will have the opportunity to do the same many more times on the Forty Acres.

Fowler and Jackson are scheduled to take official visits to Texas next weekend, giving the Longhorns a chance to make one last impression. Both have liked Texas at various points in the recruiting process and they’ll get one final chance to check out the Texas campus to see if Austin and Strong’s program are fits.

But Texas is facing two big roadblocks.

Fowler remains committed to LSU. Jackson is committed to Texas A&M and Oklahoma has made quite an impression on him, meaning there’s plenty of work to be done.

Jackson seemed to favor the Longhorns early in his recruitment until his junior day visit last February, a turn that led him to commit to the Aggies May 30. The Longhorns have stayed on him in hopes of getting him the fold, persistence Jackson and his family are rewarding with their presence on campus.

“If I see anything that checks out,†Jackson said of what he’s looking forward to the most next weekend. “If I feel comfortable in the environment and if I go back to A&M and it’s not the same on my official visit, it might be something to consider.â€

Fowler, who committed to the Bayou Bengals June 13, could be the ultimate chess piece in Texas’ defensive class. Recruiting networks have labeled him as an edge rusher, but his skill set is not all that different from that of Malik Jefferson in that he’s capable of playing any of the three linebacker spots while having the skills necessary to be able to rush the passer on third down.

For Fowler, who lives in the shadow of the Texas campus, what he’s looking for next weekend is simple.

“If they can offer more than what LSU can,†Fowler said. “LSU puts up numbers and produces players. If you look at the NFL they usually have the most [alums] in the league. They produce guys at every position.â€

Jackson has already visited Baylor with trips remaining to Oklahoma (Jan. 29) and Texas A&M (Jan. 22). The Longhorns have an uphill climb in their quest to add him to a salty defensive end haul along with Flower Mound Marcus’ Andrew Fitzgerald and Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep’s Malcolm Roach, but Jackson is approaching next weekend with an open mind.

“I’m just going to go into it and see what happens,†Jackson said...."

So winning 9 games at Texas should not be the expectation? I guess most most will be happy with 7 considering Strong has lowered expectations so low. Man the bar has been lowered. maybe we are really not a blue blood program.

At the risk of causing coronaries on this board, I'm going to dump some stuff I picked up talking to a friend this morning. Can't dump it all because some of it is, well, going to cause tantrums if I repeat it.

- The aggy train wreck is even worse than anyone here has suggested it is. And I think I've seen just about everyone thoughts on this LOL. It's bad. Really bad. And it has really helped us on the recruiting trail.
I will admit I am biased on the subject, but don't minimize the problem John Sharp has created for himself by filing that lawsuit against the Colts for their supposed infringement of the 12th Man trademark.

I talked to outside counsel the team hired in Houston to handle the litigation and the attorney absolutely has all the information she needs to show the university filed a false application to obtain the trademark and the facts as they have asserted before the court regarding the origins of their claim to the trademark are false. Texas Monthly has this story. My instincts tell me they are waiting until things heat up with the litigation before going forward with their story on all this. There is a class action attorney watching all this and asking himself if the school obtained the trademark under false pretenses whether anyone who paid the school a royalty for a "12th Man" licensed product will be reimbursed.

At some point, the issue is going to be John Sharp's leadership. I know oil at $33 has to be concerning Sharp. I have no idea what all is going on over there and the firing of Hyman certainly was a shock.

I absolutely believe they are in for a tough couple of months over there if the litigation with the Colts blows up and Texas Monthly runs with their story. Jan 25th is the date the Colts are supposed to fire their first volley back at the university.

Are you saying a consulting firm was hired to try to help Perrin?

I was a little confused about that part of the story.

That week Perrin was in NYC for meetings surrounding the College Football Hall of Fame and there to support Ricky when he was being inducted. The kind of things an AD should be expected to be doing.

I was a little confused about that part of the story.

Yes, they started on day one with him. They were there to show him the ropes on operating as an AD. That later expanded to include evaluating the whole football program.

Source is connected to the staff.

Feeling is very good about Brandon Jones, Stephon Taylor, Eric Cuffee and Jeffrey McCollough.

Staff feels good about Djax, but the thinking is he's FSU bound. Will still take him if he has a change of heart.

Safety out of a school in Alief, named Turner, has caught the eye of the staff. Don't be surprised to see him in this class. Another safety not named Jones is above him on the pecking order, but the ship is about to sail and Turner is moving to the crosshairs. They feel Turner is as good as the other, but they have put more time and effort into the other. So they wait. But not much longer.

Christmas-Giles is maybe 50-50.

There are a number of five star recruits who like Texas a lot and would like to come here. But won't. They point to the year left on Charlie's contract, with no extension, and see potential trouble. The number I was told was 4-5 kids. They really like Charlie. But they don't want to be here one year with him.

The next items are going to be quickies. I won't elaborate more on them so don't ask.

- consulting firm was hired prior to our AD hire. Goal was to help him in adjusting to new role. Scope expanded to cover other areas, including football program. Resulting report was not good. Biggest hang up seems to be organization and the handling of a large, large program.

- Contract was signed and issue thought to have gone away. It has not. We continue to cultivate a relationship, for just in case purposes. Not a sure thing if the call gets made. Other big names are also maintaining contact.

- Charlie really needs 8-9 wins next season. Think Walmart parking lot, Friday Night Lights movie.

- Dodds may be retired, but he hasn't stopped working. He was involved in getting the consulting firm. Other firms were also contracted, but were doing other things at UT not related to football.

- The aggy train wreck is even worse than anyone here has suggested it is. And I think I've seen just about everyone thoughts on this LOL. It's bad. Really bad. And it has really helped us on the recruiting trail.

My note-taking wasn't as fast as his talking, so I may have left something out here. I'll post that stuff as my memory allows. But I think I posted most all of it that I feel I can post.
With all due respect but that is the biggest BS spin I have ever heard. who ever told you that has an agenda for sure. Also Strong has 3 yrs left on his contract not one.

You are the most predictable person on the planet. And I say that with complete love and affection. :)   But you are the only reason I didn't dump everything. I simply didn't think you could handle it and still have a good Sunday afternoon. Or week. Or month. lol

You're simply amazing. Totally unconnected, yet, carrying the ability to see and hear what only I heard or saw. But you didn't stop there, you threw in a mild character assassination for good measure, against someone you have never met and never will meet.

Strong has one year to get it right. You can think whatever you like, however.

I think its too simplistic of a benchmark for measuring whether to retain a coach.

It is more complicated than that.  There are and should be many factors to consider.

I also think that bolded part smells of self-interest.

Does the source have a stake in whether Strong is retained?

ps -- we are so far off recruiting now, Aaron is gonna weigh in and slap someone around, so I stop here

I never said strong had more time. Of course he has to win or he is gone. Now in regard to recruits saying what they don't want to come here is because they fear Strong may only have one year. Yeah that very well could be their excuse and it is an easy to use right now but as in all things in life excuses are easy use and find. Maybe they just don;t want to go to Texas and that is fine.

Of course they do. All sources have an agenda. Just look at how things were reported on the way Strong handled the OC hire. everyone has bias and for that matter "CONFORMATION BIAS"

No more than I do. lol

But I did find out that another source indeed does paint everything with a Charlie brush, and why. But he's never been my source. You all know him.

OK SHA you officially have my interest. I feel like i have heard everything about aggy being a bon-fire short of Sumlin getting promoted to AD only to get caught with gay military cadets cheerleaders cheering him on as he gets down with a sheep. So please tell me how bad is it really?
