2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Chris Alderson argues we have a shot at Braxton Miller
http://network.yardbarker.com/college_football/article_external/could_former_ohio_state_qb_braxton_miller_be_headed_to_texas/18023936?linksrc=story_sport_college%20football_module_related_18032639

"........ Miller sees the writing on the wall now that Cardale Jones has led Ohio State to the 2014 national title game and likely has secured the starting quarterback position for the Buckeyes in 2015. Miller not only has to compete with Jones, but also J.T. Barrett who also was a Heisman Trophy finalist this season before getting injured in Ohio State’s last game of the regular season against Michigan.

So, if the rumors are true and Texas is truly about to land a big name transfer at the quarterback position, do not be surprised if it turns out being Braxton Miller. I have heard these rumors in the previous months that Miller could be headed to Texas, but now the steam really seems to be picking up for this to take place.

It still is far from certain, but is a possibility we have to keep an eye on. Miller to Texas would be a homerun for both Miller and Texas. I think the match of Miller and Head Coach Charlie Strong of Texas would be a great tandem. The Longhorn Nation has their eyes of Texas on this news and will be hoping that it is Miller time in Austin, Texas very soon."
I have no clue who this Alderson guy is, but I'm on board with what he's saying.

That Brousette (sp ) kid is a beast. I'd rather have him than Warren. If Strong can convince him he is fixing the OL problem, he should come to Texas where there isn't a proven great RB. LSU has a couple in front of him right now.

Wouldn't surprise if some of our Texas DBs did look elsewhere if they were afraid of the competition from the Florida kids. Not saying that is the case with Davis, but could be an issue with some of them.

Just hope we finish strong and Strong holds onto the commits he has now.

Uh...... this is about Davante Davis

This was confirmed by IT.  He visits Gator Jan 23 and his UF recruiter is new  LB coach Randy Shannon.

Charlie Strong still gets to do his in-home with Davis.

Perhaps this partially explains all the DBs we have taking OVs with us still?

Gotta keep working it to the end/

Still, losing one of the F5 would suck

We better keep Auburn away from Irvin

I feel so old school. In my day when a recruit announced that he was committing to a school that meant no more visits. Oh well, this is the way the recruiting game is played today.

Much better that Burt decommits now, so I hope it's true. We don't need to be held hostage until signing day. We need that scholarship, unless Burt wants to truly ride with the Horns.

I agree with utisdabomb. This is much better than finding out on NSD. We all pretty much expected it. Best wishes to him if Auburn is where his heart is. He will be a big time WR there.

The Miami boards are pretty sad right now

I have no bad thoughts about Burt.

He committed to us at a time when we had very few commits of note.

Gave us a well ranked 4-star name to stick out there.  And not just a 4-star, but one from OOS, the state of Florida even.

And it stayed that way for many months.

So, the way I look at it is that he did us a solid.

Best of luck to him.

With ......

---- Burt de-committed

---- G.Johnson a potential grade risk

---- McNeal possibly growing out of the position (and talented enough to be a potential position switch anyways)

We need another WR in this class.  Look at what one player alone, Amari Cooper, did for Bama this season.  One great WR can make a huge difference

With RB Kirk Johnson commit offering intriguing slot capability, my favorite of the possibles is Carlos Strickland (#17 WR). He's talented and has great size like Gilbert Johnson.  High school teammate of Anthony Wheeler at a school Texas has pulled plenty of kids from in the past.  Our recruiters need to get an OV for him firmed up.

Besides 4-star Demarkus Lodge (#7 WR), another possibility is 4-star Van Jefferson (#13 WR) who wants to OV Texas (mentioned yesterday above^).  Also, A.D. Miller is a 3-star from Dallas with pretty good size (6'3, 175) who is a good catch the ball at its highest point receiver, like G, Johnson.  And, of course, Newsome is still a possibility.

At the moment, however, we do not have WRs tripping over each other to get in an OV to Austin the same way we have with DBs.  But, if Higdon is to be believed, there are more who want to visit but the names are not as visible at the moment.  Here is his quote "Texas has plenty of WR options and they can't take all of the ones they have on the board."

ps - one additional note on Strickland.  If he does de-commit from Tech, the leader is supposed to be Cal.  But Cal just lost its top recruiter to another school.

ps2 -- Derrick Dillon has expressed some interest in Texas and vice versa.  Terrific talent, but probably a long shot

Lodge http://247sports.com/Player/Damarkus-Lodge-21089

Jefferson http://247sports.com/Player/Van-Jefferson-33068?Institution=20510

Miller  http://247sports.com/Player/AD-Miller-30760

One possibility is moving Kirk Johnson (6'0,200) to the slot.  He is talented enough for either position.

Then adding both Warren and Brosette would still leave you at 3 RBs for this class

IMO, three RBs is the bare minimum for this class, given our depth chart

So, doing it this way would give us 3 plus a potential swing player (4th RB if necessary)

2014 HUDL Highlights for him

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1624119/highlights/118568379

That would leave the 2015 WR class looking like - John Burt, DeAndre McNeal, Gilbert Johnson and Kirk Johnson (no relation)

Or, if not Burt, then those 3 plus one of Strickland, Locksley or Lodge?  Or perhaps plus none.

Even without Burt, Johnson & Johnson + McNeal is adding a lot of talent and versatility to our sad offense.  But we definitely need G.Johnson to qualify -- we need his length

So much for my idea he might stay which would help us with Locksley

ps - hopefully he goes to the Browns

Surprised Winston declared in a way. Maybe the smoke about FSU, more importantly Fisher ready to get rid of him has some validity. No doubt Fisher aged because of Winston. At some point on field performance (albeit he struggled individually this season), cannot outweigh the off field disaster he brought to the team and university.

And then tweeted he was going into hibernation while hash tagging his top three.

Talk about a tease.
I saw that. Hey you know I can't blame them. Its a big decision and they can't help but get caught up in the attention. That's fine with me as long as they're ready to get to work when they get here. Who would have thought that recruiting would have turned into a social media circus.
