2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Not that it means a god-damned thing, but Kris Boyd just tweeted #Hook'em

At this point I think these guys just like to have a little fun with their followers. I don't think there's anything more than a little good natured fun here. But still nice to see.

Just figured I would jump in here and add some perspective. I have no doubt A&M boosters are providing benefits to student-athletes.I also have no doubt that these benefits are also being offered by boosters from the University of Texas as well. Both schools have done whatever possible to eliminate this activity, but it is damn near impossible to stop. The notion that Texas admin have come close to reporting cheating by any school is absolutely absurd. They have done their best to contain the activity as I mentioned, and know that nothing would be connected to the school/AD itself, but also know better than to open Pandora's box on this issue. Schools have started adding provision in contracts deeming a coach responsible for not snuffing out/reporting this activity in order to take some pressure off of themselves. Please quit thinking that just because your coaching staff has morals, that your boosters follow those same core values, because it is quite the contrary.

The aggy fanbase is FAR more desperate for some level of achievement than the UT fanbase. I would dare say that if the UT athletic department suddenly claimed fake conference championships and fake national championships, there would be an indignant outcry. At aggy, they are celebrated. The aggys finish fifth in the nation once in half a century and you claim you run the state. We are talking apples and but squeezers when we talk about the alumni and boosters of the two schools.

I unquestionably believe aggy boosters are paying improper benefits to players. I don't think it is going on at UT at anything close to the level at aggy if it is going on at all at UT. The UT fanbase simply isn't as desperate as the aggy fanbase. At UT, a scandal could cost administrators their jobs. The ags have a much deeper tradition of cheating and cheating has never bothered the ags. Even today, Jackie Sherrill is revered at tamu and he was a sociopath.

Reading comprehension, my friend. I never said Johnny didn't benefit. I said he never was paid. Johnny may be a punk, but he isn't a totally stupid punk. If Nate received the money, how could anyone prove Johnny received the money? Take a deep breath and think about that.

 
That is a naive and ill-informed take. No point in arguing it because anti-Aggie sentiments will be bred regardless of circumstance. The same fanbase that was reportedly willing to pony up 10 million dollars a year to guarantee that the best college coach resides in Austin supposedly isn't as desperate as A&M.

Just curious, why is it absurd that it might have been the case that they were close to reporting a violation? Do you have inside knowledge that we don't? I dont know anything about this theory, but I know I can't declare if this did or did not happen. Either way, I agree that every major university probably has some folks who will try to do whatever they can to influence or improve their teams via unscrupulous means. Some universities more than others is my opinion, just not sure which ones!

Don't need a deep breath. It's just common sense. I just can't understand your rationalization.
 
By the way, rumor was we might be getting a commit today? Where the hell is that guy?

Texas athletics generates over $160 mil/ yr. Last year, aggy generated $90 mil. That was less than Kansas or Arkansas. UT operates in a financial universe the ags don't understand. All in all, Texas paying the best coach $10 mil/ yr is far more reasonable than aggy guaranteeing Sumlin $5 mil/ yr through 2019. Like I said earlier, Sumlin has a total of zero more wins than UT against FBS teams since the 2012 season and has two wins in three years against conference foes that finished the season ranked in the top 25. You guys guaranteed $30 mil to a coach who simply can't win against good teams. That isn't anti-aggy sentiment. That is proven fact.

The dead period started Monday, juco signing day was today and no big names are expected to announce anything until Friday. How much recruiting news were you expecting?

PS. I've been trying to interject my thoughts on Aggie Mike but you keep beating me to the punch. And your jabbing him better than I could so I will let you continue.😉

 
Texas:   165 million revenue- 145 million expenditures= 20 million profit- 10 million to university= 10 million to AD

Texas A&M- 95 million revenue- 85 million expenditures= 10 million profit to AD

Adding an extra 3-4 million a year into the pot for a coaching staff wouldn't have been a popular venture for the university. However, most donors deemed it necessary from what I understand, so that shows an obvious commitment. Also, I would definitely trumpet these stats if I had them, but those numbers are starting to trend down. I have heard that the Texas athletic department is not expecting to turn more than a 5 million dollar profit this year due to the ticket sales and other factors being discussed in other threads.

All of this aside, we both know that donations are what is driving this deal, not AD contributions, so I really don't see that as a valid point. Wisconsin is #2 on that list, but they have never made near the effort to pay top coaches.
