2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Charlie gets the morning, but looks like Sumlin will have the last in-home before the dead period.

Negative. Another site posted the Jefferson's itinerary for today. Sumlin met with them for a couple hours in the early morning. Charlie got the rest of the day until that window of time where they have to pack and prepare for their UCLA trip. So Charlie got in after Sumlin and had a good chunk of time to work with.

Good news even if it doesn't change his mind - at least this staff is doing everything they can to 'change the hearts and minds' of an 18 year old kid.

from 247--

Texas coach Charlie Strong is a busy man today.

After seeing Jefferson at around noon, he took off to Miami so he could see defensive back Tim Irvin for an in-home visit.

Irving, like Jefferson, is a mid-term enrollee. Irvin is expected to make his decision known at the U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio.

The key to Irvin's recruitment is Florida assistant Travaris Robinson. Irvin really likes Robinson and is likely to pledge to the Gators if Robinson stays in Gainesville.

If he doesn't, and the Florida defensive staff is far from complete, then Texas is sitting in great position.

The opinion that Strong should be able to out-recruit Sumlin after Sumlin's finishing second in the Fullmer Cup and sixth in his division and not having a clue who is DC will be is all mine. The comment alluding to the fact that successful people usually come to the realization that to reach their potential they have to be willing to walk a different path than their less talented friends is my paraphrasing the philosopher Moss (Ph.D, Rand University).

You know I love ya man, but there's a ton of speculation wrapped up in that opinion.

You're speculating that he's going to Aggy because friends want him to or he wants to follow them there. Everything I know says the opposite. He likes Aggy for some truly questionable reasons (any reason qualifies as questionable IMO, so don't look at that as surprising) due to the "hotness" of the program. That excitement has died down a few notches I would imagine, but he probably still sees the reasons he liked the place.

Friends and other plays will follow this guy, not the other way around.

You also speculate about his path or his intentions for that path. At 18 years old, that's a monumental thing staring you in the face right now. He's probably all over the place at times. This is normal for a lot of kids. I don't begrudge it or let it tell me anything more than I just said.

When the time comes for that decision, he'll do the best he can with the info and impression he has. We have to accept the fact that it might not be us and we may never really know why.

If he intends his life to go in the same direction as his friends, he needs to make his decisions based on the direction his friends go. At some point, either he needs to understand his life is going in a different direction and he has to take a different course, or he will be correct and his life will go the same direction as that of his friends.

If Sumlin holds his recruiting class together, I will be impressed. If he flips some defensive recruits, Coach Strong needs to just walk away from the state of Texas and quit trying to compete with Sumlin. I can't believe more aggy defensive prospects aren't out testing the waters until Sumlin shores up his coaching staff.
Im going to go ahead and say it...this makes zero sense..Malik and Sumlin's relationship is a stronger one than he and coach Strongs I am guessing...pretty sure agg has been on him since before Strong was the coach...c'mon man...

On Malike

Burton says aggy. One of his contacts says its a aggy-bruin battle with Texas a distant third.

Chip and Nahlin say it's up in the air still, but aggy-texas battle with UCLA just a newcomer in late.

As the leading landscaping prognosticator that I know of, he he, I say he'll be a Horn.

Charlie has a rep for pulling rabbits out of his hat late in the recruiting season.

Also, love the fact that our class isn't done yet. We'll actually have some real excitement around here on NSD.

Here is 247 article saying aggy leads with Malik

http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Why-AM-is-leading-for-Jefferson-the-return-of-Willie-Lyles-33782758

What are the Aggies pitching to Jefferson?

A&M is telling Jefferson that he is the final piece to the puzzle. The Aggies are telling him they have a lot of the pieces but they need him to put them over the top, and they need him to do it as soon as next year.

Of course, that's not all they're saying and it's not an uncommon approach by coaching staffs that have recruited star players. But it's simply a key part of the overall sales job of Sumlin and assistant Mark Hagen.

But it is not just the Aggie coaches involved in the recruitment of Jefferson.

Jefferson has also kept in close contact with a couple of current A&M players since his visit, more so than he has any Longhorn players.

Jefferson also remains close with Allen QB Kyler Murray, who is pushing Jefferson and others, like receivers Damarkus Lodge and Christian Kirk to A&M. (I know Lodge de-committed, but A&M is still very much in play there.)

On top of that, Jefferson's girlfriend is expected to enroll at A&M.

Add it all up, and Texas A&M, even without a defensive coordinator currently, is likely to land Malik Jefferson.

Jefferson will visit UCLA this weekend. And as one college coach told me last weekend, he feels Jefferson is more of an A&M-UCLA battle then Texas actually being under legitimate consideration.

Jefferson plans to announce his decision Dec. 19 -- a week from Friday.

If the Aggies don't have a coordinator by this time next week, then maybe that grows into a concern. But Sumlin has convinced Jefferson that he won't have an issue with the new coordinator because his position coach (Hagen) won't change

Visitors this weekend
RB Chris Warren of Rockwall
OL Garrett Thomas of Many, La. (committed)

Recruits still in the Playoffs
Cedar Hill (Damarkus Lodge) plays Spring Westfield (Toby Weathersby, Ed Oliver, Tyrie Cleveland, etc.) in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
Gilmer (Kris Boyd and Demarco Boyd) plays Celina at SMU Stadium on Friday.
On Saturday at SMU, Allen (Gregory Little) plays Dallas Skyline (Anthony Wheeler).
Aledo (Ryan Newsome) plays John Tyler (Isaac Warren, Braylon Jones) in Mesquite on Saturday

I've been saying Malik will be a Horn since the get go and I'll continue believing that until he signs his LOI. A lot of people are giving up and conceding him too aggy but I refuse too.
