2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Texas swung by to visit Gilmer's Kris Boyd today. The 2015 DB was also selected as @ArmyAllAmerican.

More coaching visits from 24/7...

-Texas saw both LB Malik Jefferson and CB Kendall Sheffield yesterday.

-UT was in Dallas to see DT Joseph Broadnax (committed to TCU) earlier.

Taylor Hamm is apparently at it again. Malik Jefferson has apparently become annoyed with Hamm stalking him and continually annoying him about his commitment date. FYI Malik said he would decide in December or January.

Texas offered 4 star shooting guard Austin Grandstaff tonight, 2015 class. Kid is a cold blooded shooter. Seen him play a few times at Rockwall, very smooth jump shot. Really like what Barnes is doing on the recruiting trail. Getting Turner was huge, but Barnett was an absolute steal. Lots of Chandler Parsons in Grandstaff's game.

Spring takeaways: Texas recruiting revival

........ Texas isn’t changing its uniform or its helmets this year. Its stadium isn’t expanding just yet. But the Longhorns have a brand new coach, and that has made a world of difference on the trail this spring.

For all the disadvantages Charlie Strong and his staff faced when they first arrived, it’s hard to call the early results anything other than impressive. Texas’ staff has assembled the No. 11 recruiting class in the nation and is well on its way to transforming the way recruits look at the Longhorns.

Defensive end Charles Omenihu, one of nine verbal commits in the class, was hooked from the very beginning of his junior day visit. New Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford’s pitch was simple and compelling: “Why not Texas?†

“He was right. Why would you not want to go to Texas if you live in the state of Texas?†Omenihu said. “Why wouldn’t you want to play big ball at a place with a tradition for winning? That really stayed in my mind.†

The three-star defensive end from Rowlett, Texas, committed two days later and has become one of the leaders of the class, constantly staying in touch with his fellow commits and countless blue-chip targets.

He didn’t think much of Texas in recent years. The new staff got his attention, however, and convinced him that the Longhorns’ glory days are coming again, and soon.

“I remember visibly when they won it all in 2006 and them guys were flying around and looked good doing it, too,†Omenihu said. “They looked good, played hard and beat people up. You could see that in practice this spring. You could just tell.†

The intensity was just what he was looking for, he said, because he plays on a tight ship at Houston Westfield. And how did Strong take it when Weathersby declared he was ready to commit?

“Well, I had to catch him,†Weathersby said. “He jumped in my arms.†

Like Omenihu, Weathersby had his own beliefs about what was wrong with the Longhorns. He felt that in terms of intensity, Texas was “like a golf club†in Brown’s final years. Strong drastically flipped his perspective on the program’s future.

“I can’t really go into detail, because it would take me months and months,†Weathersby said with a laugh. “But the way he changed everything, I think it’s a more strict football program and, with his way of doing things, it’s for the better.â€

No doubt who my favorite recruit is. This is from an article posted on ESPN.

Omenihu's wish list for this Texas class is ambitious, and includes ESPN 300 recruits Malik Jefferson, Chris Warren III, Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, Ryan Newsome and Cameron Townsend. And he doesn't intend to give up on five-star Texas A&M commit Daylon Mack.

"I wonder why great defensive players would choose to go to A&M," Omenihu said. "It boggles my mind. They don't really play defense. If I'm wrong, someone please tell me."

24/7 saying Coach Rumph was in Plano today to see RB Soso Jamabo

According to 24/7, Coach Chambers went by Dallas Adams yesterday to see DT Joseph Broadnax (committed to TCU).  He was invited to a Texas camp and said he will attend, plus he wants to meet Coach Strong.

The guy doing the fake Charlie Strong twitter account is back.  Daylon Mack favorited the one about him.

Charlie F'n Strong @ChuckFnStrong Follow .@DaylonMack if you commit to Texas we will play one down lineman on defense I am telling the truth

Charlie F'n Strong @ChuckFnStrong Follow .@_jdavis15 Okay I am going to have a DJ at practice just for you what music do you like all I have is Otis Redding and some old DMX

I love Omenihu. He is awesome. The individual on the fake CStrong twitter is priceless, too, at times.

3 crystal balls came in for Kemah Siverand in Texas favor today. Aggy homer, Hamm, is even talking about switching his pick to Texas. Would be a huge pickup for Texas. High 4 star, with 5 star potential depending on a good senior year.

We had coaches in Arkansas watching Ross Trail throw yesterday. Scouring the country for a 2015 QB.

Update on the coaches' travels from 24/7...

-Coach Rumph is at Dallas Parish Episcopal to see 2016 DT Douglas Tucker.

-some coaches will be in Tyler to see 2016 DT Braylon Jones.

-Coach Vaughn will see WR John Burt of Tallahassee, FL later today.

Update on DE Keisean Lucier-South of Orange, CA (24/7):

"I want to take an unofficial visit there this summer," said Lucier-South. "I'm not sure exactly when yet, but I'm trying to set something up for the summer time. If everything goes well I might do an official later. I really don't know honestly, but I like Texas a lot. They're up high on my list."

"We talk probably every two weeks," he said. "We have a great relationship. He's a great man and he always keeps it real with me. I love the coaching staff there in general, but especially Coach Rumph."

"Texas is just a great football school," Lucier-South told Horns247. "They have a great tradition there and they're always playing some of the best teams. I like them a lot."

OL Jerry Tillery of Shreveport, LA told 24/7 yesterday he will attempt to visit UT this summer.

Quotes from DT/DE Sterling Johnson of Clayton, NC (24/7):

"We last spoke about two weeks ago," said Johnson. "We actually talk about three or four times a month, but this last time Coach Rumph was telling me how much they wanted me. They have already offered and they're a school I like a lot, so it was good hearing that."

"I really like the mindset that Coach Strong has," he said. "Plus, there have been some great defensive linemen to come through the University of Texas."

"I'm planning on visiting sometime this summer," Johnson told Horns247. "It won't be for a camp, just a straight up visit. I'll be looking forward to it. I want to see what kind of quality education they offer and get a chance to really meet the coaches and people there."

The coach of JUCO DE Takkarist McKinley gives an update on his recruitment (24/7):

"His recruitment is really picking up," said Carter. "We're seeing a lot of schools come in and they're all very interested. Obviously Texas has offered and they're very interested in him, along with many others."

"He likes them (Texas) a lot," Carter said. "We have some familiarity with Desmond Harrison going there, even though it's a new staff. But this staff really likes him and he likes them. He's heard many, many good things about what Texas has to offer. He's actually trying to set something up to visit sometime this fall. That's still all in the works."

"Takk is going into this with an open mind," said Carter. "He's going to have a lot more options this go around. He does already actually. I wouldn't say anyone has the lead right now, but a couple of schools, including Texas, are on his mind."

Per 24/7, CB Kris Boyd is another prospect we can expect to meet with the coaches this weekend.  Taylor Hamm switched his Crystal Ball pick for Kris Boyd from A&M to Texas a few days ago.

Coach Wickline was in Nacogdoches yesterday to see CB Jaylon Lane and 2016 S Brandon Jones

-Alabama has offered WR Ryan Newsome of Aledo.

-Oregon has offered DE Charles Omenihu of Rowlett.

Basing this on a tweet linking to an article I can't access, but it looks like TCU commit DT Joseph Broadnax will visit Texas this summer.  @WVWilkerson: #TCU DT commit will visit #Longhorns this summer, per @gabrieldbrooks

Thanks bomb. Hope you don't get into trouble giving us all this inside info. I am only a member on this board and I appreciate all that you and others offer in regards to recruiting. That is the most exciting aspect of all this, is the recruiting. Wasn't there some talk of hornsports doing their own version of the crystal ball?

No problem. Most of the stuff I find is posted on other free boards. I don't think 247, inside texas, or OB minds as long you attribute the source.

Once Sterling visits UT, he will love it. If he is looking for an excellent education, a program that is on its way back to the top of the college football world, and an athletic department where no expense will be spared for the benefit of the student-athlete, then his search will be over after he lands in Austin.

Hook 'em!
