Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Technically, Robertson was recruited as a center and he will have a year under his belt. I have heard Agbo might get a shot there. I think they like Majors but want more out of the position.
Nice.  As I said, Majors did a decent job, but he got handled a lot. Maybe another off-season to bulk up and stronger will do the trick.

That is lineup I would like to see.  Like I said, I think Majors and Hutson could battle it out for the starting C spot, but the rest should be it (if Cam Williams is ready).
A couple of days ago, IIRC, IT's Gerry Hamilton stated that he's hearing that Campbell will play RG in Spring training while Neto will compete at LG. Apparently, the coaches want to train Cam William at both LT and RT.  Its a good idea to train the probable 2024 LT.

LT Banks    Williams
LG Conner    Neto
OC Majors
RG Campbell
RT Williams

I diont read too much into these kind of statements in the off-season because the coaches might simply want to evaluate different possibilities; however, it could give an indication where the coaches might want to go with personnel changes if they need to.  IT also said that Hutson went through soldier surgery and would likely be out of spring training; this pus Campbell at RG anyway.  Supposedly, Robertson will also miss spring training, also with a shoulder injury.

Thats too bad. This would have been a good time for Robertson to shine.

It sure is nice to have quality OL and quality depth.

I went on ahead and added Adonai Mitchell to my spreadsheet as a transfer from UGA

He needs to be on wherever he is going this week and the reports are he is on campus now.  The Georgia portal has Mitchell 100% CB to Texas

Cool spreadsheet.  Question, I see you have Jelani McDonald at WR.  I was under the impression he would be on defense (either LB or S).  I know he was listed as an athlete and played WR in HS.

yeah, that's the problem with ATH designation and you are probably right. Not always but generally speaking they either end up as a receiver or DB. I put the 2023 class on there about 2 weeks ago and  waiting on confirmation. From a sheer numbers standpoint, I should go ahead and move him to DB; that makes more sense. Once the info is on the spreadsheet, it's an easy data move.  I'll input a note so I dont forget

Watching the KC/Jax game and the thought occured to me that Chris Jackson is going to be the UT WR coach. Just the fact that they have not made an announcement by now leads me there.

I know, I know, not a groundbreaking thought.  I don't like KC, but I want Jax to lose so UT can move forward.

I will say it now...Arch Manning will not red shirt this year....not saying he is going to start, not saying he is going to get a shot, but just a feeling that his maturation process with early enrollment is going to make him a "mature" freshman

Okay. Jacksonville lost. Let's go get our new WR coach.

What do you mean? You think he will play in 5 or more games, or you think he overtakes Quinn and start 5 or more games?

It hopefully doesn't matter. If he is on campus for more than 4 years, something has gone awry. I would expect him to be around for 3 years, so the redshirt won't really come into play - if its 3 or 4 years.

Being that it doesn't matter to redshirt him or not, I hope he is able to take the backup spot and I hope enough games go well early that he can get some game action to further develop. I don't hope that he takes over the starting role however, I think that would mean less than great things for the 2023 season.

Red shirt or nothe is proably three and done. What does matter to me is, if ewers has anotherOkie Lite game. Then Manning or Murphy gets a shot.
