We can thank the players because these names need to be changed. Robert Lee Moore the racist is easy to change. Painter the loser from the Supreme Court and the wrong side of history needs to go.

Littlefield part of the losers of the confederacy can go and Hogg and his Jim Crow support can be changed.

What’s in a name?: A look at the names on buildings that Texas athletes want changed

The University of Texas has a long tradition of naming campus buildings after school presidents, influential donors and members of the UT System Board of Regents.

On Friday, dozens of Texas athletes requested that four specific building names be changed due to the individual’s personal history. All four have been targeted previously by critics about UT’s racial past:

Robert Lee Moore Hall: Built in 1972, the “RLM” building is the tallest on campus and home to the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy. Moore was nationally recognized as a math scholar and taught at UT well into his 80s. He died in 1974 at the age of 91.

However, Moore also was well known for being racist and was in favor of segregation. He generally refused to teach black students, and famously once told a student, “You are welcome to take my course but you start with a C and can only go down from there.”

Painter Hall: First constructed in 1933, the UT physics building has gone through several reconstruction projects. It’s named after Theophilus Painter, or T.S. Painter, as he was known — a zoologist who also studied human chromosomes. He later served as UT’s president from 1946-52.

In 1946, Heman Sweatt was denied admission to the UT law school. At the time, Painter said that Sweatt was “duly qualified for admission into the Law School at the University of Texas, save and except for the fact that he is a Negro.”

With the help from the NAACP, the legal case reached the Supreme Court, which decided unanimously in Sweatt’s favor. UT was forced to allow black students into graduate school, though undergraduate students could still be segregated.

Littlefield Hall: George Littlefield’s legacy is all over campus. A major in the Confederate army, Littlefield had business success and was appointed a UT regent in 1911. He became an influential donor and still has several things on campus named in his honor — like the LIttlefield House, Littlefield Fountain and a dorm and cafe.

UT athletes specifically referred to changing the Littlefield Hall dormitory and added a bulletpoint “to include the patio cafe and fountain.” It was built in 1927 is the oldest resident hall on campus.

Hogg Memorial Auditorium: As the governor of Texas from 1891-95, James Hogg championed higher education and proposed some of the nation’s first laws against lynching. However, he allowed railroad cars to remain segregated, setting the stage for the Jim Crow era in Texas.

Hogg Auditorium, which opened in 1933, has long been a facility for performing arts. Outgoing UT President Gregory L. Fenves announced in December 2018 that Hogg’s statue would be removed from the South Mall along with three others.

Hogg’s statue was moved near the Hogg Building, east of the UT Tower. The Will C. Hogg Building is named for the governor’s son. Fenves has called Will Hogg a supporter and advocate for UT.

"More republicans by percentage"
- This is fact.  What was stated in the facebook post can be misinterpreted and as stated is false.

"less government" - Well, we would have to talk examples here.  Is an executive order more government?  Are farm subsidies more government?  It's all a matter of opinion and perspective.

Taking a post from facebook as fact is not something I do.  There are some facts in here but I would like to see sources cited.

For example "though more Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats".  - Where's the source for this?  Is this just an opinion?  What criteria is being measured here?  What does it even mean?  Democrats were in majority of both the Senate and House during Johnson's presidency.  So I'm not clear on the statement.

"We ARE and will always be the Party of FREEDOM & Individual Liberty."  -  Tell that to the kids in cages.
The cages that Obama started?  We will never agree on politics and I’m sorry if I offended anyone on here. I truly enjoy the good nature and civil tone of the group. I will do my best to not get political again. ?

It looks like Clemson wants to remain a football power.

CLEMSON REMOVES NAME OF SLAVERY DEFENDER CALHOUN FROM COLLEGE, ASKS TO RENAME TILLMAN HALL

DeAndre Hopkins, one the best receivers in the league has stated this was one of the reasons he says his high school during player intros. Smart move by them.

Reaction to national crisis does not have a political bend. I'd imagine either a GOP or Dem/Socialist President would have done the same thing with regard to farmers.

They feed the nation.

An EO is a constitutional right of every president. It is rarely used in constitutionally challenged issues, save for the DACA (dreamers) that Obama said he couldn't do 24 straight times, then did it.

I don't mind providing links to what I say. If you'd like to challenge, it won't offend me. Don't just take someone's word for information. Facts are not play-doh. They can't be bent to say anything other than what they represent. You can't take 5,000 black murders at the hands of other blacks and pretend it's an opinion. There's a gravestone for every one of them.

I did two decades in the news business. I still have ink in my veins. If your opinion isn't supported by facts, you're just setting yourself up for an embarrassment that you really don't want to endure. At least thats what I was taught, trained, and live to do. I'd rather you hit me up side my face than tell me a lie. I'll get over the hit. The lie will hurt me for many days down the road.

Exactly. If UT does what some posters want them to do by telling the players that we are not going to make any changes and if you don't like it then leave. Then the result will be that UT football will become a second rate power. We will not to able to recruit on a good enough level to compete for National Championships.

I lived through it once before. DKR slow walked recruiting black players since the UT administration did not want him to. We went from a national power in the 60's to where we lost to OU five years in a row in the 70's Other coaches (Switzer) were able to successfully say that DKR was a racist.. Driving Darrell Royal to an early retirement. The fans who don't want to do anything about making changes is calling for the suicide of the football team.

I do believe that it will work out since CDC knows that the football and basketball program will tank if we don't and those are the money makers. Tom Herman has said he does not have the players back, but that he has their front which means he will fight for them.

Here is the story behind it.

In response to that article and the post I will use a Darrell Royal quote when responding to a reporter, "You're what-iffing now and everybody can what-if."

I  do not have a problem with this, at all.
Were the lyrics the problem?  If so, these are just fine.

I stood on that field far too many times for The Eyes.  It would hurt for it to be changed.

I understand that players felt they needed to take a stand.

btw, I thought The Eyes was adopted because a coach, Bible?, once said before a game “Remember, team, the eyes of Texas are upon you today.”

One of the great things about college football are the traditions, and alums love the traditions.  Take that away, and college football is no longer the draw that it is now at Texas.

Take away the draw, and our players no longer get the best facilities, equipment, and everything else that money can buy.

Wow, Texas (The State of) has received warnings of protestors planning to deface and/or destroy the Alamo. The Alamo has absolutely nothing to do with racism.

When I first visited the Alamo as a child, it was before all of the reconstruction. I don’t even recall a gift shop.  By the old well, it was very quiet and peaceful.  At the old barracks, where so many men died trying to buy Sam Houston time to gather an army, I felt like I was at a gravesite.

The Alamo is a symbol of Texas Independence.  Why would anyone want to destroy it? I cannot imagine why unless they are simply bent on wholesale destruction. For goodness sake, at some point, destruction only leads to more destruction.  Role models need to speak out against this.

George P Bush has said the Alamo will be defended, and there are dozens of law enforcement already positioned there to protect it. As he said, the Alamo is sacred to some. It is to me. The protective force is composed of the Alamo Rangers, SAPD, and DPS.

For those who want to erase all symbols of our history, yours and mine, ours, have you ever read that if you do not learn about history, you are destined to repeat it.

If you need the link the article on The Alamo, I can get it. My screensaver is giving me fits, so I am not including it.
