Herman to LSU

the defense wouldn't be worse if the players just went out and played sandlot style. 'You cover him...I'll cover that guy'
I'd make it in for another game to see that happen!

I would not assume that at all. LSU is a great job. Great program loaded with talent with the natural ability to get even more. If Herman played it right, he could shove Saban aside in the SEC.

Anything can happen. Texas might money whip him until he says yes. But there is a gentlemen's agreement right now with LSU. That is hardly binding.

My only point is, don't underestimate the appeal of the LSU job.

All that said, that agreement may have been just a security blanket for Herman in the event the Texas job didn't come open. I don't know, just thinking out loud.
Yep, you hit the nail on the head. It was advantageous for LSU to fire Les when they did. The first was to get rid of Les before he saved his job like last year. The second is they can behind the scenes negotiate with Herman's agent.

Texas cannot since they still have a current coach. When Urban Meyer left Utah both Notre Dame and Florida wanted him, but Florida fired Zook early in the season and they had a lot more time to negotiate then Notre Dame. So, it does work in LSU's favor to have this time. Although I believe Meyer saw that Florida was a better job.

I also believe Texas is the job he wants and that's according to Bruce Feldman. So, he can have an offer from LSU and if we need a coach in December and if we want Herman then I'm sure we can match LSU's offer. If your Herman right now you don't know if the Texas job will be open and if he will be the first choice. I just hope Sexton is not trying to get him to LSU. I'm not a Sexton fan.

Sexton is hired BY coaches to get them the best contract possible. Ultimately it's the coach who decides whether to take it or not, because Sexton works for THEM. Certainly Sexton has been contacted by LSU, not just on Herman's behalf, but for other coaches who use him as their agent. And Texas has contacted him as well, don't let anyone tell you different. If they do, they are lying. I've covered a number of coaching searches in my career, and I've interviewed Sexton more than once. He's damn good at what he does. Herman wants Texas if it comes open. He'd also kick the tires on USC, but people I talk to seem to think Helton isn't going anywhere, that Swann wants to give him more time. I read that as, he's hoping for Chip Kelley to realize he's not an NFL coach and will return to the college game, where he'd be a great hire at USC.

As far as salary goes, this is what I would do to get the guy I want, be it Herman, Meyer, Petersen, or ole what's his face: offer him 6.5 to 7 per year with a guaranteed raise of 250,000 to 500,000 for reaching certain milestones-to be agreed upon, conference championships, 10 win seasons, you name it.

Then, I would include bonuses: 500,000 when guys toe the line and stay out of major trouble, 500,000 for meeting academic standards (1000), $1,000,000 for making college football playoffs, another 1,000,000 for making the championship game, and another 1,000,000 for winning the National Championship. All bonuses, except the first two, would be forfeited if there were recruiting violations substantiated against the program.

Want a proven coach, pay them.

I don't know, dalton, but if they want the best pay them top dollar, then give them performance bonuses. If your top man wants to cut his championship bonuses to 500,000, then give them $1,000,000 per coordinator to hire the best, and pay them performance bonuses. We would be sold out every week, donations would pour in with the wins. Bonuses go over better than just flat out paying bigger salaries.

I would be looking for a new agent if he jumps at the first team calling. With all these big time jobs that could come open in the next few months... that is what we call leverage and leverage = payday! He might have a agreement with Lsu but until that ink on the dotted line dries it means nothing.

I am starting to think after this weekend that the Oregon Ducks might also be looking for a new Coach ,  Arkansas fans are getting frustrated with Bielema, small rumblings are being felt at Notre Dame, USC , anyone else we want to add to the list?

In other news, UH is losing to Navy, 41-33, and Herman's Cougars just had a PAT blocked.
The loss was needed for someone to make a move in December.

PS  I highly doubt he ends up in Baton Rouge.

I'm actually all for keeping Strong.  I want him to succeed here.  While it looks really bleak, I want to see a turn around and him to stay.  With that being said, isn't he from Arkansas???  I actually had a piggy fan suggest to me that he go coach their defense...

Just curious, what would it need to look like for how long before you would be ready to let Strong go?

I don't or didn't think sexton was toms agent.  Maybe I'm wrong.  LSU isn't gentlemen's agreed upon just yet, however he is far from a guarantee to Texas that most want to think.

I believe Charlie gets to 8 wins and he is the best for sure thing we have or can get.
