Recruiting wasn't the only reason as some people & site's are suggesting. There are other subplots at work.

There were several drops in the bowl game. I recall this because I kept thinking "man, when he does throw a good pass, CATCH IT!!!!!"

I'm sure that's not the reason, but could be indicative of one of the reasons.
