Realistic expectations for UT Football

First your rant in Crossfire now this? What changed your course? You're normally so overwhelmingly positive, so I'm curious why the sudden disparaging remarks towards Coach Brown?
"what changed your course?"  "rant in crossfire" "you're normally so overwhelmingly positive" "sudden disparaging remarks towards coach brown?"  are you kidding me?  matt, my great pal.. might i remind you, that it is indeed you.. that is now highlighted as one of our new administrators upon the block, as per our great and yet endearing "hornsports".  as per any and all, that have come to know and accept my humble patronage...  they may very well acknowledge to you that although, i am known as per my positive assurances, humility, as well as professional demeanor..  i shall never harbor a problem calling a spade a spade...  respectfully speaking of course.  in regards to your comments as per "crossfire"..  matt, you strike me, as an impressive, as well as quite articulate member / administrator, that should very well comprehend the full meaning of the term "crossfire".  it is not about HS members coming together with "teacups" and "canapes"..  joined with flowers permeating as per the scent of hibiscus.. it's about us members being allowed to comfortably and respectfully join in with our host darrell mcphaul, as he prepares to deliver a modern, comprehensive, and yet realistic approach, to what is actually happening upon our great and powerful 40 acres.  often times, this approach shall lead to a varied debate of such, that is not often times loaded with the sweet and refreshing taste of "kool aid"...  or so to speak.

I think we're going to see the difference that real coaching can make this year. I think the Longhorn masses have been mentally trained on what to expect from our athletes over the past decade. But we're about to get more out of them than we thought we would, IMO.

The coaching is that different.

You'll see players you didn't think were that good will be better due to coaching. They'll be right there in the 4th, due to real coaching. They'll not quit when things head south, due to real coaching.

I think the UCLA game will be a head-knocker of a game. I expect a defensive struggle and we'll show up big time. I don't know if we'll win or not, but I think we'll be pleased with the effort and performance - again, due to real coaching.

So while the QB position is really a big question mark for us, I see us in all of our games because of toughness and good coaching. If we get that, we win. Because with that, bigger things will come.

I expectations are 8-9-10 wins ... but most importantly a change of attitude. I can live with a 7 win season with a change of attitude and have hope for the furture....

You worked 'canapes' into your response...+100 points!

Absolutely.  This can't be overstated.  For the first time, we will actually have football coaches that can't be outcoached by the likes of Stoops and Snyder.

IF David Ash can start the season and stay healthy we can have an Auburn-like breakout year.

If not, I believe 9-3 will be a good season for us.  Tough games include UCLA, Baylor, OU, OSU, & K-State.  We really need Ash playing at a high level!

BYU will be a measuring stick for our defense.  Gotta win that game and hold their vanilla offense to significantly fewer yards and points.  Watching their QB run for 259 yds last year almost made me throw up!  If we lose to them - look out.  It might be 7-5 for us.

With Ash 8-10 wins, without Ash 6-8 wins.

Offensively, Wickline better work wonders with the line because, if he doesn't, we will be shocked at how bad they are. Running backs are as least as good, maybe better, as last year (assuming Gray can play). Wide receivers should be better than last year. QB with Ash is a huge upgrade over last year. Without Ash, still probably as good as last year.

Defensively, the line will probably be about as good as last year. LB's are just not very good and are the weak link defensively. I expect the secondary will be as good as last year, maybe even a little better.
