Big 12 baseball tourney projections

Great write-up, Matt.

What do you think the chances are that Texas hosts a regional if it happens to win the tourney?

FWIW, Kendall Rogers' 'Pefect Game' still projects us as a #2 in the Rice Regional (with #3 SHSU and #4 Columbia).

Like the confidence Matt. I am with Kendall on a #2 seed, although I don't know if we'll be "rewarded" with it being in Houston or of we have to go OOS.

The best thing about this tourney is that it is truly wide open this year.

If the Horns win the tournament & look good doing so, then the committee will be forced to strongly consider Austin. DFF is one of the nicest facilities in the country and that also plays a factor.

It's really tough to project the last 3-4 host sites. The key to remember is that it's a dynamic situation - games across the country are going to have an equal impact (positive and/or negative) to how the Horns fare.

This is why I always have mixed feelings about the Big 12 tournament. If winning the tournament helps us become a host, I'm all for it. If we are a #2 seed and there's no changing that, I really have no problem with going out early. Would rather have our arms rested going into the regional.

good stuff, matt

if texas wins the tournament, they'll get a regional i think, or at least host as a 2 seed.

kendall and i have different opinions on this and he knows more about it than i do, but i don't see the committee walking away from a regional in austin if they can justify on any grounds.  right now they've got grounds because of the ISR and SOS.  they won't if texas makes a quick exit, but if they get to the finals, i think Texas hosts.

the committee knows that a regional in austin is good for college baseball.

Oregon State, UF, FSU & UVA are all virtual locks to get national seeds.

Ole Miss, ULaLa, Indiana, Miami, South Carolina, OkStU & TCU are all strong candidates for the other 4 national seeds. How those teams do in the conference tournaments will dictate what happens.

That's 11 teams (above) that will undoubtedly host a Regional. Add Cal Poly & Washington to that list (on merit and to get some Western US host sites).

The other 3 host sites should come from this list:

LSU or Vandy (depending on SEC Tourney outcomes)

Louisville or Houston (depending on the AAC tourney)

Rice (would have to have a miserable tourney to get leapfrogged, IMO)

Texas (has to win the Big 12 tourney AND needs others to lose)

I tend to side with you on this.....it's easy to get caught up in season outcomes/resumes, but the committee also has to consider what's best for the game and TV coverage. Some parks simply aren't good options.

The problem for the Horns is that most of the other teams in consideration to host also can do a sufficient job.

I agree with this. If Rice and or Houston lose early, and Texas makes a deep run I think Texas will get the nod.

WVU would also really be helped by other bubble teams losing their openers. A&M and UTenn losing in the opening round of the SEC tourney def helps the 'Eers.

BU scored 5 in the final two frames to make their 8-5 loss look closer than it was. TCU started Kipper and Riley Ferrell only threw 11 pitches to end the game. That sets up the Frogs nicely for the weekend.

South Carolina got hammered. Ole Miss & Miami both lost. ULaLa, IU, OkStU & TCU all took care of their business.
