Just got a text from someone who would know that Texas more likely than not lost hosting a regional today. Not just super regional but a regional. There's just to many schools in Texas to give UT one when we haven't displayed we deserve it.

Final Book

Texas 6/12/3

WV 12/14/2

WP: Means

LP: Schiraldi

Not the effort I was anticipating today after the battle yesterday.  Friday's error-prone D reared its head again today, and combined with pitching struggles the hole we dug by the end of the 4th was too big to climb out of.

We put together 12 hits, and 6 runs today, including several extra-base hits.  Everyone but CJ in the starting lineup registered a hit today.  Carter led all going 3/4 with 2 runs scores; Payton was 2/4 with an RBI & scored a run; Shaw was also 2/4 with 2 RBIs.

CJ struggled going 0/5, and had chances with runners on, but couldn't break through.  Payton had a couple of balls that just would carry a few feet more for a HR.

Schrialdi struggled with the leadoff hitters, allowing them to get on base in four straight innings, giving up 5 runs, 3 earned.

The Texas bullpen was hit/miss.  Duke/Hollingsworth/Sawyer didn't give up any runs.  That wasn't enough to overcome Schiraldi and Cooper (6R/4ER)

Ty Culbreth had a brief appearance (1R/1ER)

This team will not host a regional at this point.  I don't think it matters what happens in Manhatten, KS in a couple of weeks, that ship has sailed.  With teams in state like TCU, (playing really well,) UH, TT and Rice, the options are many for other schools playing better ball right now to be hosts.

What does this mean?  Well, Texas needs to get back on track.  I thought after Saturday's game, this team had found the fire in the end of the game, and was ready to put together a little bit of a run.  Now, they will have to get through Finals Week next week with no games, get their acts together for the following Tuesday game and head to K St with their heads on right.

A good showing at K St will help going into the conference tournament, and we can worry about regionals after that.  Texas cannot afford any further setbacks right now.

i believe we are now 2-7 in our last three series. Probably dooms any chance for hosting a regional. Looking ahead to  next year, if we lose Parker and Peters along with Thornhill, we are not in good shape with pitching. Schiraldi hasn't shown he is ready for the big time and Cooper et al have been good at times but there doesn't appear to be a great pitcher ready to step up outside possibly Curtis if he should move to starter. This should  have been our year.
