Won't be able to call the game tonight, as I'm traveling.

Here's the lineup card.

Thanks brotha.  We'll try and keep the updates here even if they are not in your impeccable play by play format.  Safe travels.

I wish Dish would hurry up this sucks. However I am watching gamecast... :P

Rice leads Texas 1-0 with 1 out, bottom 2nd.

Just got to my hotel in Denver.

Looks like Schrialdi fell apart in T5, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits and an error by Gurwitz who booted one, allowing Rice to extend their 2-1 lead to 7-1.

Texas responded in B5 with one with its only hit of the night, RBI single by Ben Johnson.

Horns down to their final chance here B9

Shaw leads of and draws a 4-pitch walk.

CJ up

0-1 take

0-2 swing

1-2 low

2-2 misses low

Full Count

And the story of tonight; CJ hits into a 4-6-3 DP; 2 down

Carter up

1-0

1-1 take

2-1 low

2-2 looks

K swinging

Final Line

Texas 2/1/1

Rice 7/13/0

WP Tekeyl

LP Schiraldi

Glad we got that out of our system prior to heading north of the border on Friday.

Now, let's go kick some okie ass!

Hook Em!

One of those nights, but that's baseball for you. I knew it was going to be one of those nights in the top of the first. Schiraldi gave up two hits that were absolutely perfect pitches. Both hitters were jammed and somehow found a hole. Had they been wood bats they would have been pop ups to the pitcher. Give RIce credit, but these type nights are bound to happen sometimes in baseball. Schiraldi has the best stuff on the team, but is still inconsistent at locating his pitches. Great weekday starter, but I like our 3 starters in the weekend rotation.

After tonight's game, a voice of an older announcer comes on and begins to speak....

"Where are the great Horns players of yesteryear? Where are the Spike Owens, the Brooks Kieschnicks, the Greg Swindels?

Is the modern athlete a pale imitation of the great old warriors? Only Ben Johnson stands out tonight, begging the question, 'What are these boys thinking about, 'cause it sure ain't baseball'."

I think this is very true.

yeah, last night's game was a mess but lamenting for the 'good old days' seems oddly timed since we'd just come off a stretch of winning 11/12 and risen to the top-5 in rpi.

no...we don't have a kieschnick or a swindell but since they're arguably the greatest hitter and pitcher in our program's history, it's not terribly surprising in ANY year not to have someone like them.

they were good but not the greatest. that would be Moreland and Hooton.

I am not at all lamenting the "good old days," but I am saying that other than the pitching and Payton, the talent on this year's team is very ordinary. I am very happy we are winning, but it will be a struggle all year long.

Thus, the 'arguably' re brooks and swindell.

wasn't referring to you on the 'lamenting' but whoever the 'older announcer' joeywa referenced. but no, other than payton i don't guess any of the other everyday players would start on our best teams.

holy s**t. got me. i really should log off these damn message boards at work. my multi-tasking ain't for s**t.

but dammit...i'm STILL taking kieschnick and swindell over moreland and hooton. so there's that.

Gus said brooks was the bast player he coached.
CG said Moreland was the best hitter and Hooton was the best pitcher. he probably meant BK was the best two way player because he was both.
