Hearing he never wanted to leave Austin.
I don't think he really wanted to leave and got a great offer. GT didn't have the best defense this year as a DC. Also Terry Joseph left. So now he can come back as Passing Game Coordinator and not just Safeties coach. That can justify giving him a raise from the $600K he was making in 2024. Joseph was making $850K when he left so you can probably offer Gideon $925K and he'd take it. Only a very small drop in pay from the $1 million he is making at GT. May be worth it to come home and have a little more job stability.

I think Travaris Robinson would be the better choice right now. Great safeties coach and he's an excellent recruiter.

They think Robinson is "probably the favorite" to be the new safeties coach

Not only is Robinson a solid coach, he is a plus recruiter and it weakens UGA just a little. Plus, it will piss off Kirby Smart
. Also, we will finally get an aggressive style of defense that will attract aggressive players. I liked PK, but I absolutely hated seeing them playing 8-10 yards off WRs on 3rd and 3 or less. Sure they will likely give some big plays here and there, but I think they will also be in position to cause more turnovers. Plus, the defense gave up big plays anyway this year.

There seemed to be more confusion on defense this year than the past two. Some attributed that to when Taafe went down for a few games but it may have been a difference in philosophies among the defensive coaches causing confusion. If it’s Robinson, it could provide more continuity at every level since he is familiar with Muschamp.
