**Running College Football Updates Thread**

Michigan was more successful because they had a more sound defense overall. We're not there yet, but obviously Sark is recruiting to fix that.

In the first three quarters, Sark did run more than pass, especially if you discount the 2 minute drill to end the half. He obviously had to pass more in the 4th to play catch-up, but overall, Sark's game plan was to be run heavy which he was doing. He stated as much in the post-game PC. In the end, Penix being on fire and our defense unable to stop him took Sark out of his game plan, but he still almost pulled it off.
I don't know what Michigan was playing in the secondary but they had all the WR's bracketed most of the night. PK needs to take a long hard look at that defense.

Michigan was able to get more pressure on Penix than we could. I think they especially created more pressure on the edges. We didn't have the DEs to do that. Additionally, they're secondary was better and they DBs were a lot more physical with Washington's WRs, which threw off timing and didn't let their passing game get in a rhythm. That said, the refs were definitely letting them play last night, which allowed Michigan's DBs to be physical.
From what I saw on ESPN this morning Texas had one more pressure on Penix than Michigan did. Although it looked like the Wolverines hit him whereas Texas didn't.

It will be interesting to see how hot Ryan Day's seat gets at Ohio State. They've lost three in a row to the Wolverines and watched them take the conference title each year. Now, they've won a national championship. Day is losing the battle and although they seem to continue to collect talent at the top of the standings, this was definitely not one of their better teams this year.

Lots of holes to fill from departures. Lots of pressure on Day.
It is not effecting O. St. recruiting they have #1 DB in Texas commited and #2 at 100% to commit.

In the several games I saw Mich. play, their DBS played the same way.

Texas was already recruiting against SEC teams when aggy deserted.
This. We'll actually keep more players that want to stay in state, but play in the sec. We're also going to miss on a lot of guys that do want to go elsewhere. Sanchez for some reason never seemed genuinely interested in Texas, it happens. We'll be fine.

There's nothing more frustrating than us still continuing to miss on the top ranked kids in state every recruiting cycle. The national recruiting that Sark and crew are pulling in is great, but it's a real bummer not seeing the best in Texas stay home (obviously there are a couple exceptions, but we still miss the top ranked kids at a higher rate than we should).

Not sure who deserves the blame, but all the passes that were batted down skews the stats a bit. That was pretty frustrating to see
To be fair, you also need to remove the final drive of the first half when Texas was in the two minute drill. Sark said the game plan was to run and run some more. It was obvious to everyone that Washington's rush defense was a weak spot and Sark's not stupid. Unfortunately, he was forced to scrap the run-first game plan when they got down and were trying to come back with limited time.

Yes it is the point is Texas is loseing too many top players to other schools. And will get worse now Horns are in SEC.
Eastex, we have the number 3 class. You don’t have to be a Debbie Downer. Life’s too short. Well…

Recruiting getting worse now that we are in the SEC? Only you could conjure up a negative recruiting spin based on us being in the SEC. We have no chance at Colin Simmons if we aren't in the SEC for example.

Yea for sure. I am not blaming Ewers nor Sark. I was frustrated we didnt try to run the ball more. Its easy to second guess after the fact. We could have played better but its year 3 under Sark. He will get another shot at it

Huh? We were tied at half 21 each. We gained more yards per rush attempt than we did per pass attempt in the first half. So how does that fit "he was forced to scrap the game plan" Maybe the final drive before half I get that but before that? Our first drive was 4 passes and one rush

I thought I heard they were graduating 16 starters. Washington is graduating a bunch as well.

I don't know the number, but that sounds about right. Michigan was a very senior-laden team.

I expect Harbaugh will take an NFL job over the off season. The NCAA is going to keep after him and I think he's seeing the writing on the wall.

I am somewhat surprised that Michigan administration hasn't done something, given that the cheating scandal placed the school in. an incredibly bad light. Instead, they'll do anything to keep him and that's their focus. Not the cheating.

The complete 1 st half

18 rushes for 132 yards, 7.33 ypc
19 passes for 117 yards, 6.16 ypa

That includes our final drive before halftime

That is not what I would call rush heavy game plan but more balanced, especially considering the first drive of game was 4 passes and 1 rush which ended up as a punt. We punted 4 times in the first half
