The Common Man Prediction Thread – Mormon aggy

also slight correction having spent lots of time in Utah hunting and running field trials

BYU is not Mormon Aggy, that distinction belongs to Utah State is the real Mormon Aggy located in beautiful Logan Utah
BYU is deep roots Mormon located in Provo, I had trouble finding a Starbucks there and when you order a Coke product at a restaurant its the tip off that you aren't from around Provo

Utah University located in the heart of Salt Lake City is the public school for the kids who could afford BYU and Brock Mendenhall has the best team in Utah and has recruited lots of non Mormon kids or kids that might be called "jack Mormons", which most of my Mormon friends fall into that group

Well, this week, they're mormon aggy. We don't play Utah State.

Im going against the prevailing "we're in trouble" that seems to be spreading among Longhorn Faithfull, I tried the alternate Horn fan site and either im too old or too stubborn to hang over there, I know some of you are there too and thats fine
Horns are going to kick some Mormon tail and everyone can jump on the MM bandwagon as Longhorn fans have a tendency to do. We are going to play like a #8 ranked team should play

My Mormon friends won't bet me, but they alway remind me to bring them a case of Diet Coke or Coke Zero if /when I stop at Costco, and I bring a French Press when I visit

funny. You need to bring them DrPepper and Diet DrPepper. With my mormon friends, Pepsi was ok for some reason. haha

This team is hard to figure. Since we barely beat an awful team last week on the road, maybe we can beat an equally awful team at home with our backup QB. I think Murphy will do well since he will be prepared to start with a game plan designed for him (one can hope). But if the offense struggles, many of us will be calling for Manning, myself included.

Sark says he will run his offence but run mostly plays that Maalik runs best. Some say Maalik has a bad back. Can he go full game? If not wewill see Manning. If they run alot

The Mormons do not forbid the drinking of caffeinated drinks such as Coke or Diet Coke. But they do forbid the drinking of "hot drinks" such as tea or, gulp, coffee. And that alone is why I could never be a Mormon.

:p yeah, my mormon friends laugh about the fact that caffeinated drinks have been considered ok since mormon investors invested heavily into Pepsi. whether the church invested or not I dont know but drinking caffeine drinks use to be against the rules and then it wasnt.

"It was dictated in 1833 by Mormon founder Joseph Smith, and bars consumption of wine, strong drinks with alcohol, tobacco and "hot drinks," which have been defined by church authorities as tea and coffee."

yep. that's the interpretation and position they are taking now. I dont really care to take it any further

I just thought it was interesting. Can't believe they are against coffee. Or snuff.

Starting in 2021, a discerning football enthusiast will observe our defensive staff being out coached time and again. This was glaringly obvious in the UH game.
The defense, on the other hand, has looked elite - even though sporadically. But mostly because our talent simply overwhelmed our opponents.
The behind-the-scenes talks have not been positive regarding our defensive strategies. Just saying.

Our rush defense has been pretty stellar this season. I saw a stat that the long wyoming run and Dillon Gabriels account for like 25% of all the rushing yardage we have given up on the year.

The pass defense problems seem to be communication issues. I think that is probably both on the coaching staff (teach the players the roles and how to communicate it clearly) and the players (failing to do the communication and route pass offs properly).

BYU does a lot of crossing routes and mesh concepts so we will be able to see this week if the team had adjusted and improved in the regard over the last week.

agree... but at some point PK has to own it. He is in year three; these are his players and his concepts. One player not grasping communication or concepts as fast as other is one thing, multiple players goes to coaching and development, IMO. Again, it's his call if he needs to simplify things inserting several replacement players.

The problem is very few of us have confidence this will be fixed this week.

Sark has had problems himself, i.e. red zone offenses. That being said, in order to have these problems means you are IN the red zone and that ain't bad
On the other hand, not understanding an opponents half time offensive adjustments and/or not knowing how to defensively adjust yourself is simply being outcoached. Convince me I am wrong.

EDIT: I promised myself I would stay away from these rants, yet here I am.
