*****SUPER REGIONAL GAME THREAD - TEXAS vs. #8 STANFORD*****

Jalin Flores works a walk but that is all for Texas in the top of the 9th.

Weird moment in the bottom of the 9th. With 2 outs Stanford batter lines one off the wall in left. Stanford bench thinks it went over and starts out on the field, batter throws of helmet, etc.

Throw into second almost gets him but he gets himself on base just in time.

Some discussion between umps and coaches but nothing comes of it other than a 2 out double.

Lucas Gordon gets a pop up that Texas cannot find. Another weird moment and hard way to lose this one

Wow, a fly ball hit to the moon that should have been out number 3 and none of the Texas fielders have a bead on it. It drops just a few feet in front of Campbell and Stanford wins.

7-6 Stanford

That was a heartbreaker.  I've been there at dusk.  Sometimes that crap just gets lost.  Feel bad for the kids.

Crazy way to lose this game, Texas had a great season and really played well. Future is really bright for this club. Great job in a rebuilding year !

Like Ron Washington used to say.... That's the way baseball goes...

Wow! Not bad for a rebuilding year, but that's a crappy way to end the season.

Next year

1 Rebuild whole pitching staff.

2 Find a speedy CF.

3  Gain 150 batting points at DH. 80 points at 2Nd base and 50 points at SS. This would be a good start.

I didn't think Texas would make it out of the regional. I thought for sure Stanford would kick our arse at their house yet the team found a way to win one and almost win the Super. I was wrong about this team, they played with heart, desire and moxie.

I feel for Campbell. Without him, this team probably wouldn't have done the things they did. I lost a ball in the lights so I know it happens. That throw out to 3rd in the 8th was spectacular! Heads up young man and HOOK'EM!

1. Do you realize we have the 8th best team ERA in the nation, 4th best if you only look at schools playing in major conferences?

- I don't disagree that bringing in as many great pitchers is ideal, I'd love to have a staff like Wake Forest, but I think people lose perspective at how effective our staff was throughout this season. Perhaps the few series or games that were blown overshadow all the good, consistent performances.

- It'll be interesting to see what happens with the pitching staff. Gordon, Witt and LBJ all have MLB draft decisions to make. Heston Tole, David Shaw and Luke Harrison (who missed the entire year) will all be coming back from injury. Charlie Hurley, Zane Morehouse and Travis Stehle were quality arms - all draft eligible but unlikely to go - that would be returning as well.

3. The NCAA is more offense friendly these days and while we had a good number of guys batting over 300, we were not a dominant offensive team. It would be nice to see us bring in/develop some more consistent hitters.

Yes I know Horns staff has a low era. stanfords era was much higher, did not show with starters thiers was much better. Bull pens both teams left a lot to be desired.

You proved my point on pitching staff beeing rebuilt. and guess you agreed on three positions needing higher averages.

We are proably thinking the same just wording it different.
