*****SUPER REGIONAL GAME THREAD - TEXAS vs. #8 STANFORD*****

Mitchell Daly with HR to close gap to 5-3. Stanford pitcher at 114 pitches, not sure if he trots out their for the 8th

Stanford ace comes back out for the 8th. Gets a strikeout and a hard hit liner for outs 2.

Mitchell Daly rips one to left for a 1 run HR to cut into the lead 5-3.

No pitching change, and another strikeout (13 on the day) to end the inning.

I was surprised that the Daly HR wasn't the end for him but it worked out for them. I'd be shocked to see him in the 8th.

Stehle gets em 3 up and 3 down. Solid pitching for him in this game. 6 more outs left to make something happen.

Stanford did send Quinn Matthews back out there. He starts off with his 14th strikeout. Dylan Campbell then works the walk on pitch 127.

Still no pitching change.

Guilmette strike out and Porter Brown ground out ends the inning.

Matthews nearing 140 pitches and with only 3 outs remaining, good news is we get to face a new pitcher.

Stehle gives up a single and a bunt that Texas doesn’t make a good play on. 2 on 1 out. Duplantier is in. Stehle did really good job keeping Texas in this game

Back to back singles and then an error on steal attempt. 8-3 Stanford and Texas goin back to bullpen

Stehle with a good outing today to give us a chance. Wheels falling off here in the top of the 9th. Maybe we can get one of those crazy 9th inning rallies to work in our favor again.

Lummus comes in and gets the 3rd out. Stanford trots Mathew’s out for the 9th inning with 135 pitches under his belt. Tall order now for the comeback. But it is baseball.

And Quinn Matthews comes back out, already at 135 pitches.

Hopefully we can get to him early this inning and put some pressure on a reliever.

He is still throwing low 90s with his fastball at pitch 140. Pretty impressive.

With a 5 run lead, it is a bit aggressive to keep rolling with him instead of just bringing in your 3rd or 4th best reliever.

2 quick outs though.

O'Dowd rips a double and the pitching coach comes out for a visit. Mathews definitely wanting to stay in the game and he does. 150 pitches in

Daly grounds out to 3rd.

Really incredible performance by their pitcher. 3 runs and 8 hits, 150 pitches.

Both bullpens should be in a good position tomorrow. Morehouse and Hurley fresh to take over for what I presume to by Tanner Witt starting.

Hats off to him 156 pitches, struck out 16 Longhorn batters. Have to get game 3, hope Witt is good early and we can get into their pitching tomorrow

So what’s Texas going to do this evening?   Will it be the Saturday or Sunday team that shows up?
