NTG, imagine yourself in 2004. Texas beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Big step for a program that hadn't won much until then.

Yet, lots of people could see as early as the final second of that game that Texas was going to be loaded in 2005. I didn't hear anyone saying "But they were Rose Bowl Champions!"

No, I don't think this is as easy as your pretending it is. I see us as in a similar position as we were at the end of 2004. We're loaded. Sark has done a better job at accumulating talent than Mack Brown did. Sark has the portal so that's part of the difference. The other I suppose is that talent is across the board, in every single position group. We were still starting Billy Pittman in 2005.
USC and UT were #1 and #2 all season long in 2005. This year's team doesn't have the accolades, but they do have the expectation of a pre-2004 Texas team.

"No, I don't think this is as easy as you're pretending it is."

You obviously have me confused with Freddie Mercury ?

And, as far as similar positions, we are probably closer to the 2003 team than we are the 2004 team at this point. With the $64,000 question being, does the 2023 team reach the level of the 2004 team or does it exceed that level?
I can agree with that.

Here, let me blow your mind a moment. lol

The 2005 Texas roster was indeed talented. However, the team wasn't so talented across the board. For example, the WR room was hardly anything to brag about. There was a reason David Thomas, a TE, was our best receiver.

I'd venture to say Johntay Cook, a WR who has yet to play a down here, would likely start for that 2005 team.

Vince carried that team. We had good role players and some surrounding talent. Thomas is a great example. The OL is a great example as well. But Vince HAD to take matters into his own hands because of our deficiencies at WR and RB.
R. Taylor might have made an NFL roster had it not been for his legal issues.  I thought Charles was on that team.  No?

That was his true freshmen season. He and Ramonce accounted for 43 yards that game. He was impactful but not spectacular.

Top WRs Limas Sweed and Billy Pittman. Vince and David Thomas were the two best skill players big time.

I think Charles was on that team. He made me forget about Adrian Peterson.

This sounds nuts at face value, but there seems to be an anticipation for next season just like after the 2004 Rose Bowl. I'm not saying the results will be the same as then, but the excitement is tangible.
