2023 Portal Recruiting (CLOSED)

What is great about the portal is you can justify taking or passing on nearly every player. Whether it’s a former top 100 recruit who hasn’t panned out for some reason or a smaller school guy who has played great and looking to upgrade.

Brockermeyer is a legit 5 star talent at LT, who will be a RS Fr next year.  He's also a legacy.   They would be nuts not to go after him.

or is he a sophomore??  Nevertheless….
OT is not one of our needs. Brockermeyer was a legit 5-star talent in HS. At Bama, he got recruited over.

Ok, I would certainly take JoJo Earle at WR for Texas.  The only way I would pass is if it somehow messes with signing Niblett. Ryan is special and a must keep.

I don't know about Tommy.  On one hand I think Texas has done a fantastic job of getting quality OL and have a bright future.  Otoh, Tommy is a legacy and could very well be everything they thought he could be.  Never seen him play at Bama, but maybe he just hasn't been completely healthy.  Only person that really knows his potential is Kyle Flood.  If Flood sees him as a get them who are we to question him.  I would not be upset.  Let Tommy and Cam W. fight it out for the RT spot and play the best one.

Hell, maybe Tommy just didn't like his brother Luke and didn't want to go to school with him. Now that Luke is gone he wants to come home.

So many possibilities in the portal right now has me feeling like:

Yes, true.   Flood recruited him at BAMA.   I think he’s still as good or a better prospect than our commitments in 2023.  I think we offer.  But - there’s always that slight chance that I’m wrong.

Nice post.

Tommy wanted to come to Texas, but Blake (Dad) didn’t like the pass blocking technique Coach Hand taught. Tommy committed to BAMA when Flood was the OL coach.

Keep in mind - he hasn’t seen much field at BAMA, but he was a freshman this year.

Again, you have a good shot (I would think) of bringing on a very talented OL-you can’t have too many!.  Do it!!  You have a good shot, that is, unless the Brockermeyers read Surlyhorns.

Why would you? You don't even know if he's suitable depth. You'd pass over a starting OL from Bama in order to get a kid who couldn't get on the field?

The starting guard with three years experience at Bama who has declared has already reached out to Texas.

All of this talk may be moot because we aren't shopping for OL.

Brocks aren't freshmen.

It will really surprise me if Flood doesn't go after Tommy. Tommy hurt my feelings when he snubbed Texas for Bama, but I can get over it. After all, I'm twice the man that Gundy is...I'm 2 X 40.

Honestly, I think SHA is right. Tommy didn't even make the traveling squad. Besides, he may be a little small for Flood. He's only 6'5" and a little over 300#s.

I personally think Tommy will choose closer to home and look at SMU or even TCU. SHA is right though, there is a 2 year starter from Bama currently in the portal so I would consider that one over Brock right now.  However, Flood is doing the choosing so let's see what he does.  I like the possibility of Cam Williams at RT, but right now that is all it is.  Kid hasn't proven it on the field yet and maybe the coaching staff (Flood) think he's another year or 2 away from primetime.

Watching Hutson this year made me think the same thing.  He did some things well, but he wasn't ready.  They had to play him because he was the best of what they had.  Doesn't mean he will be the best next year at that position.  He just had more time in the system over DC.
