What impact will large NIL contracts have on young men’s decisions to leave early for the NFL?

I think this could be a very positive result of NIL, and please don’t get me wrong, when schools abuse it, like A & M was, I think they should be penalized-harshly.

The story about Bijan and Lamborghini could be a training film about the way NIL should work.  He initiated the contact.  Of course, Lamborghini could have, as well.

Back to the point of the post, if student-athletes are making good money through NIL, there isn’t such a rush to bolt for the NFL.

Hook ‘em!

Agree, but if you are a star football player, your dream is not just to make good money playing college, it is to be a star in the NFL knowing careers can be short.   I agree that for some more marginal players, another year could make them a first round instead of say 3rd or 4th round, but I think several leave because they don't like school or are doing poorly.  I think that occurs more often than the person that really enjoys college and needs to leave for money.

Interesting thought @java.  Some of these kids may make more with NIL than they will on a rookie contract.  It could keep more kids in school. If the kid is really good enough for the NFL, my guess is the NFL will pay what it takes to get them to leave.

More than ever, These kids are really gonna need good and wise counsel…someone who only has their best interests in mind and not some money grubbing agent or family member.

When you combine NIL with insurance policies against injury, staying an extra year becomes a more financially viable option, particularly when they have a reasonable chance of improving their draft outlook.

I suspect some players love being student athletes,  while others just want to be professional athletes.

Im thinking that in Bijan's case he would make more staying another year than hd would on a "rookie" contract.

I don’t know. The signing bonus for the 10th pick in the nfl draft is more than $12M dollars. Then you get your salary and endorsements. That’s a lot of NIL.

Exactly, no reason that Lambo et al drops his endorsement deals when he goes pro.

I think for the folks looking at being picked in the 4-7th round, small signing bonuses, 500k in salary, you could definitely make more money in a college program with good NIL deals AND potentially boost your draft stock and land a better signing bonus and initial salary.

Bijan is a generational “package”.  If he goes to the right team, he will be the face of the franchise.

Personality, talent, looks, and enthusiasm radiates off of him.

I am really hoping he has the type of season we expect he could. It would really cement him among the best RBs at Texas. I think he is already there based on talent but hasn't been able to put up that type of stats he is capable of due to Tom Herman and injury.

Could he pull a Ricky and return for his senior year? I doubt it seriously but will keep my fingers crossed.

Like Ricky, he seems to have that unique personality that may care more about his team and university than pursuing millions in the NFL. Unlike Ricky, he is already pulling in big bucks while in school.

Of course, the most logical move would be to go pro and be the likely first RB drafted. Passion can't beat out logic though.

I don’t think it’ll effect any player projected to be drafted in the top 3 rounds. They get guaranteed money on their nfl deals and even 3rd rounders making around a million a year.

Those questionable guys may now stay. If a few can land 6 figure NIL deals it may be worth it all of a sudden to stay and get the degree instead of risking being cut.

Did y'all see where Bijan donated 3K$ worth of backpacks to some school?

Generational good guy....
I really hope he has a great year on the field this season. He'll go down as an all time great and fan favorite if so. Regardless of the success on the field, he's a great dude off the field.
