Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Hopefully the law of averages will bring the injuries back to a sustainable number. Then there is a four week window to get well for the dirt burglars.
And also where the injuries happen. Is it a position with good depth? Or one with green depth? Or big step down depth?

I would say it happens with the green depth. This, as everyone knows is a young talented team. How many Soph's and Frosh are in the two deep?

I could see Cam Williams starting by mid season.

J'Mond Tapp, IMO, would be a popular option is we have injuries there.

I won't go through them all, but there's a bunch of them who could play.

This 2022 class seems to resonate with the old Dirty Dozen draft class with the Cowboys. They were acknowledged in camp being special as well. And it might be koolade. Time will tell.

Really surprised no one is expecting any improvement in the defense.  There were so many mistakes in learning a new defense that they gave up a lot of touchdowns on busted assignments.  Is there no faith in PK's defense that worked elsewhere?  Personally, I expect a lot of improvement in year 2 from simply understanding assignments better.

I don't expect us to be top 30 nationally in defense, but I don't expect them to be around 100 again.  If we prevent a score a game, we could turn those close losses into wins.

Do people expect a better OL this year compared to last, or will it be worse with the freshman that need another year in the weight room?  Personally, I expect slightly better, as i don't anticipate as many riffs, but don't think they will be able to hold the line as long as we need which can result in shorter to medium passes.  Not seeing a lot of deep throws with a young line.

I was in Europe during the predictions earlier this month, but do think 8-4 is the floor.  Anything less and I worry about our recruits.

How many players will we lose to injury this year? We lost many last year.

I'm worried we may lose a few in the Bama game and will be at less than 100% going into OU.
2 down and ? to go. Hopeing for injuty free till OU a must win game for Sark and Horns!

How many of the seven OL recruits from 2022 end up on the two deep?
7...

I think Hutson and Banks are already pushing for the starting roles. Cam Williams probably 2nd string at RT and could take that spot too. DJ Campbell will get a look at guard, he may be our third option right now. Neto, Agbo and Robertson all probably need some time in the incubator but sounds like they've at least be getting run with the 2nd unit during camp.

I'm mostly optimistic,  but every year at this time I tend to be optimistic, so fingers crossed they can live up to the potential.

I agree the Defense should be much improved with more talent and experience in the system, plus having Patterson helping out doesn't hurt.

I expect a better Oline, but early in the season we will likely see some costly freshman mistakes.

Honestly, I don't know how to feel about the defense or the OL.

I do think the OL will be better just by the size and willingness to learn the blocking scheme that Sark and Flood want over the guys that have been here.  The issue last year with the OL was those guys didn't or couldn't figure out the blocking scheme.

The defense: the safeties should better just because neither is Foster and the other guy.  Do think Cook, J. Thompson, Blackwell, Crawford and possibly Coffey taking over the safety positions are better. The coverage corners and star/coverage safety should be better. The DL should  be better if Murphy and Broughton with Collins are the top 3 DL. Coburn, Sweat, and Moro as back-up might light a fire under their ass when called upon. The LB position is still up in air. The edge guys haven't  shown enough and Ford, the GT LB, and Overshown and others are questionable.

Are we better we all will see. Just not after the 1st 3 games, but the whole season.

Injuries occur during the season. How severe the injuries are will be more important and how it effects the outcome of the play and the decisions made to improve the players and the win total of the team

So, some don't understand how the NIL deals work in which Garth is getting the full NIL deal irregardless of him playing or dressing for the team should be noted. Garth is getting the $150k irregardless of him dressing out for Texas.  That is how the NIL deals works. Seems to be hard for some of you to understand.

Do you need the state rules posted for you? As this is a state law, not a NCAA rule? Thus aggy and  USC are being looked into.

For those wondering about the numbers:

Liebrock, Merril, Sawyer Goram-Welsh, Prince Dorbah, Wright all should be on watch to move on.

Then,  add  Gbenda, Parr, and Omiere.

Plus add on short leashes: Ibraheem and Hall.

Will see: Card, and others that most won't expect.

See how easy it is to get to 10+ to move on.

Is it really asking too much for you to post without being condescending?
