QB1 still undecided as Fall Camp marches on

"However, Thompson’s individual performance didn’t translate to wins.

Newcastle went just 3–7 and missed the Class 4A playoffs his senior year after following head coach Jeff Brickman from Southmoore, but it didn’t dissuade any potential colleges from the four-star prospect. He finished his illustrious high school career with 18 power five offers, including Ohio State, Penn State and Miami."
Reminds me of Tyrone Swoops in high school. Great athlete whose performances didn't translate to wins...and we know how his college career went

Sark on picking a starting QB: "If I can put my head down on the pillow at night and know who that starter is, that’s great. That doesn’t mean I have to tell you guys and announce it."

Didn't Mack decide to go to a power run offense after the NCG loss? That's what messed up Gilbert.
Yes... but that's part of my point. The system is different now than when we saw Thompson play last time, so the results on the field could be different.

College ball teams  today, and Sark in particular aren't looking for pocket passers or Tim Tebow/ Ehlinger runners. A Dual Threat QB is a must.

Sark almost had his hands on the top 3 in the country. That's no accident.

Isn’t Ja’Quinden at Utah?

I'm sure it's just me but sometimes I don't follow you ?

Yep, my bad. He jumped through the portal a few weeks before Sark was named. The concept still holds true, in today's world you need a top Dual Threat QB. Jackson probably realized that it would come down to a shootout with Card, and he went for the sure thing. Texas had 2 of the top 3, and Sark recruited the other.

Herman had the future looking good, but ran out of goodwill. The fans and the team had quit on him.

I thought Mac Jones last year at Alabama was “just” a pocket passer.   And Trevor Lawrence was a pocket passer too. They worked out pretty well.

Maybe my memory is faulty but I don’t ever recall him looking like Thompson did during our bowl game.
Thompson was against a team that didn't really want to be there though. Wait, that was Georgia the year before. My mistake.?

No doubt, every team would love the luxury of blocking so well that the QB can sit back and fire away. Alabama had every tool on offense you could ever want. Hopefully Sark can do some of that magic here.

NFL wants passer 1st, and players want to play in a system that sets them up for that. College, following High School is much more of an anything goes style.  Maybe if NFL would open up the game I might watch. No, never mind.

So was Simms. Head space plays a bigger part than arm talent. Let Sark make the right pick.
Simms was all body, Major was all brains. You couldn't really make that statement if different races were involved, but it's true. Just like Garret, the body eventually wins in the NFL.

With all due respect, Applewhite had more than just brains. He had moxie.

The play where he hit McGarity from our 2-yard line and McGarity went the distance. After the play, the guy in the end zone in the face of an OU DB talking shit was Applewhite. To that point, I had never seen a QB get in his opponents' face like that. I knew right then we were going to win the game.

Applewhite was a warrior.

Just saw highlights from today's scrimmage on Fox 7. They said both QB's looked great, but there was a lot more Card highlights...

So, assuming both are equal or close, I understand the concept of starting the younger one, but there are other factors to be considered here. If Card starts, Thompson will probably transfer, since he has already come close before, leaving us with a true freshman backup. I don't believe Card would transfer. Casey has waited his turn and shown he can be a winner in game situations. Unless there is clear separation, I would start Thompson first and give him a chance, even if I thought Card has more potential.

Casey might still transfer if Hudson replaces him later, but at least he got a shot at it.

I just don't like the thought of putting all the eggs in one basket.
