Hermann needs to go

I know Erin Hogan mentioned Dabo today on the horn but I don’t see anyway he’d leave that dynasty for a rebuild of any kind. Obviously being in ND I’m not talking to BMD by any means but I have a hard time believing they are forking up that money for a subpar hire. With that said not sure they’ll have any option but to fire Herman, recruiting is looking like Charlie 2017. All that said they better not play any negotiation games with Urban if he wants 15 mill a year so be it. IMO Texas is a bad hire away from being Nebraska so get it right damnit.

Agree on Sweeney not leaving. Maybe Sweeney's agent threw out a bone as a  negotiating factor for more money from Clemson.

Some personal thoughts about Erin Hogan throwing out Dabo Swinney:

No offense - but this is fantasy island without da plane. We do this to ourselves every time there is a perceived coaching vacancy.  Any blue blood coach doing well - that floats his name out there, is trying to get a raise, period. Again, no offense - Clemson is a much, much better job than Texas (as currently constituted).  We can match any salary, but this is an absolute dumpster fire.  We don’t even have a band that will play the school song for crying out loud!   The players and coach make more news for skipping practice and political activism than what they do on the field.  Would you want to walk into this - when the expectation is to win conference and compete for national titles?  Most football coaches at this level are about football.... they have dedicated themselves to football.  Texas’ job demands much more.

urban is a unique situation and I could actually see that going down.  I wouldn’t bet on it, but it actually could happen.  If not Urban, settle on Fleck or Venables.  We are NOT stealing a blue blood coach or an NFL head coach.  Don’t eat that cheese.

Let me interject a "what if" scenario.  and this will only be about two coaches.  I don't care about Saban or anyone else - just these two coaches.

If you had a choice between Urban Myer or Dabo Sweeney, which would you take?

I'm talking about coaching only.  I'm NOT talking about any off campus drama so don't get into that.  Yeah, I know Myer is a POS.
Dabo

He's likeable, younger, and much "cleaner" than Meyer. But, Dabo is probably next in line at Bama if he wants that job in a couple of years. Only reasons to come to UT are money and "challenge". The off-the-field challenges make the UT job much more difficult than Clemson, Bama, and other universities.

The inmates run the asylum here. It's becoming both untenable and unpalatable for many alumni and fans.

For coaching only, I'd probably go with Dabo but it would be close. I think UM is a very good coach.

Where Meyer fits is that he's run a program similar to Texas in Florida and again at Ohio State. This wouldn't be a trial run like Herman seems to have been.

Urban is good at recruiting, at assembling a good staff, at getting his program on the same page, and so many other things. Dabo is no slouch, but he's no Urban Meyer in those categories. IMO
Good points

Meyer has done it 3 times at Big State U if you count Utah. Dabo got it done at SC aggie where he's got more freedom and a little less scrutiny, IMO. He could take more risks and do things his way at Clemson.

UM probably knows how to swim with the sharks a little better.

I once talked to Myer at a coaching clinic.  (no I'm not a coach.  I was invited and I was curious). I found him to be most charming and very charismatic. I could see how he could be a dynamite recruiter.

You'd probably feel the same way about most HC's at big time programs, including Saban.

They can all "turn it on" when necessary. Even Herman

He’s great on the Fox pregame show.  Not sure what that’s worth....

I must disagree.  It will be a cold day in hell before I pronounce The University of Texasas  a "dumpster fire".  The school is not defined by an athletic program.  If you were a student here, did you enroll because of the school band?  Or even the football team?

The football HC job has been described over the years and by many who knows as the premier coaching job in the nation - INCLUDING the NFL.  and that includes today.  Clemson can't begin to be as good as the Texas job and, I might add, Dabo believes as well.  So I have been told.  I suggest you have way too much emotion invested in a sports program and maybe you should take up golf.  :)

Hook 'em, forever!

I've talked to Herman a couple of times.  I was impressed that he remembered my name as our brief talks were a year apart.  However and not that he was bad, but he was not as impressive as Urban.  Herman seemed a little aloof both times I talked to him.  Probably because I was just another UT fan to him.  Urban seemed very personable and talked to me like I was kin or something.  I liked that.

But that is just me.

Agree on the university part. The coaching job at Texas is not what it was. Several univ. are better jobs today Pay more and easier job. Unless things change in a big way the we are Texas will be a thing of the past.

Eastex - you are a hardhead on IT as well.  (you are the eastex from IT, aren't you?).  Name me a better job and I will counter all the things that make UT better.  Just because the morons in college station gave the farm away doesn't mean every other university is that stupid.  IMO Herman is making an obscene amount as it is.  Especially since our ROI sucks with him.

Besides big time HC jobs are not easy anywhere you go.  Texas is no different.

If the next coach is Fleck there will be another search in 3-4 years lmao

way too much drama and too much entitlement, we have a coach who followed three straight losing seasons with three straight winning seasons, a conf championship game appearance and a Major Bowl win and he's about to get canned. we don't deserve to win.

Do you honestly think Tom should be retained?J. Mac .had an appearance in a conf. championship game and he won. He also won aconf. title in less time than Tom has been coaching at Texas. And I was glad to see him go.

Point taken.  I should have said the Texas football program and not UT.  And a dumpster fire is a good metaphor IMO

I’ve heard Barry Switzer in the past say that UT was the best football job in America.  But I will stand behind my idea that the Texas HC job is not viewed as highly as it once was.  I’d be willing to bet my mortgage that we could not go and snag Dabo Swinney out of Clemson.  Where he is and where that program is, is preferable to stepping into this mess.  He is trying to get a raise if he has floated his name out there....

edit - The football team has a tremendous impact on where people choose to attend college.
