Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

It's time and it should be done immediately. You can't let the season continue to deteriorate and affect recruiting more than it has already.

And they you have to hope that two things happen. First, that the BMD's really can and will fund the buyouts. Second, you have to hope that Urban really wants to come. Because there really is no one else available that can take Texas to the highest level. Well, other than Saban and Swinney.

While I agree, doing it immediately poses several other questions to be answered such as; who takes over for the rest of the season because I don't see any way Urban comes mid year?

Some where Tom gave acoaches name ( do not remember who) as who would take over if Tom got the virus.

Drayton. Not sure that provides a warm fuzzy feeling about the overall direction of the remainder of the season. Then again, I don't know enough about him or his coaching abilities to make an accurate assessment except to say that it has been a while since we had a RB who could break tackles consistently. Of course, other than Sam, we do not seem to have anyone at any position that can seem to break tackles any more.

I would suspect Chris Ash would be named interim coach based on previous experience.

On the subject of Chris Ash, wasn't he fired 4 games into Rutgers season last year?  So, at least he is here to give Herman advice on what to do.

Switching the topic to UM, Meyer would not have to completely overhaul the coaches to get his guys.  The main ones are basically here.  Hand and McKnight would be gone for sure.  Hagen, Giles, and Boulware would be looked at, but could be replaced with UM guys.  Hutzler, and Valai were picked by Ash so a case could be made for them to stay.  Andre Coleman is a good coach and should be looked at to stay on.

Other names I've seen thrown around are Campbell and Fleck. My questions for those more knowledgeable than I is, have either of those demonstrated that they could recruit Texas or that they have what it takes to lead a program of this size and complexities? Both have certainly had success where they are but that is not necessarily a precursor for success at UT.
Herman type candidates.  Need more body of work before either should be considered

Never, ever,  hire an up and coming face again. UT has enough money to hire anyone it wants. It just has to get out of it's own way.

Ash is not HC material. He proved that.

Hand I see no way he is retained. McKnight has a shot at staying. Of the rest, Boulware would probably go. Giles would have a shot at staying as would Hagen.

I don't see anyone else UM would get rid of. I could be wrong.

Fair assessment on Ash, but who else could be interim HC, IF (BIG IF), Herman is let go now?

I might go with Yuricich or Ash. IMO, Yurcich has a future here. Our offense produces points. Thats really all we asked of him and he's done that. Maybe he's who I'd hand the keys over to for the time being.

What makes my stomach turn is that we all drooled over what this defense could be with a 4-man front. Well, now we know. And we still have to outscore our opponents. Don't get me wrong, we're still better than we'd be had we retained Orlando. But we still have a bunch of work to do on that side of the ball.

I'm looking at November 7 to fire Herman. We play Baylor in two weeks, Then Oklahoma State, and on November 7.West Virginia.

If we lose at least two of those games then that will be four loses and time to make a change. We will have a bye and then play Kansas which is the best time to have Ash as the interim coach.

That seems very sound and logical.  However, Im going to hope for the irrational and emotional outcome of TH being let go now.  Don't give him a chance to rally some and gain momentum (not that they would).  If you have the backing and the money then do it now.  Salvage what you can.  I don't want any possibility of a year 5 by the team running the table.  That would just be fools gold.

Has anyone seen any hard evidence CDC has the money to do it now? I haven’t.

No, but we've never seen evidence that any AD had the money to do what they do. lol

BMDs will have to pay the buyout here, no question. And after they paid money into support for the social justice stuff, they simply asked that the Eyes and other traditions be kept. After walking off the field leaving Sam alone right after losing, again, to OU, many of the BMDs feel betrayed by CTH.

So yeah, I think the BMDs would fork over the cash to do it now. If UM is hired, it would save us assistant buy outs and new salaries. UM would likely keep much of the current staff.

This is why I don't see Herman surviving the season.

Using Pro Football Focus numbers, the team as a whole allowed 23 pressures by the Sooners defense. Of the times that Sam Ehlinger dropped back to pass, he faced pressure on 32.8% of the time. Essentially a third of the time, the quarterback faced some sort of pressure. On those passes he was sacked a total of six times in this game. Ehlinger had an amoebic 2.6 yards per attempt. Longhorns Wire will have more on Ehlinger’s struggles a bit later on.
