Whoo right on cue. You do know it’s a fact that Southern Democrats switched to voting Republican because the Democratic Party at the time wanted to push civil rights to court black voters?? This isn’t some opinion. It’s been proven. But really none of that matters. I tend to end the stupid argument of the Democratic Party being the party of slavery & the KKK with this simple point. African Americans overwhelmingly vote Democrat. So you either have to accept that we know which party best supports & represents our needs or you think we are overwhelmingly a dumb race who continues to vote for a party that apparently never switched. That we continue to vote for that racist Democratic Party. So do you think we are a dumb race?? Oh and my intent is simple, I just want to know if you think African Americans are dumb. If they impugns you, I’m sorry.

A higher percentage of Republicans voted for the civil rights act than Democrats.

Look at you, you’re so clever, trying to put words in my mouth and paint this picture into an either or proposition. Not gonna fall that crap. In answer to your question, no I don’t believe the black race is dumb, I’ll say it again, no to your question. I do believe many of them have been duped in to believing the Dems lies and gotten them to vote for them. I also see on social media many black individuals now coming in support of Trump. Do you think all black people who vote Republican are dumb?

After this election, Democrats in the South went back to voting for Democrats.
Only Two Congressmen switched parties in 1964 after the Civil Rights Act, Strom Thurmond and Mills Godwin. That’s right, Only TWO.

So do you think all the people who vote Republican are racist and or dumb?

What words did I put in your mouth?? So you don’t think we are dumb. But you think we’ve been duped for decades?? Wow that’s some high line tightrope walking. How is it that we have been “duped” for so long?? What is the reason?? You see on social media that more black individuals are voting for Trump?? I haven’t seen that & I don’t know many people in my family that are. Trump polls pretty low with African Americans. Actually more African Americans think he’s a racist than support him. I guess if we are going by what we see on social media, that makes it so. Trump got like 12% of the African American vote. That’s higher than Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney who was going against the first African American president. They showed he got the lowest % of the vote compared to others who weren’t going against Obama. As for thinking a black person voting for Trump is dumb. No I don’t think they are dumb and I won’t insult them by saying they were duped. They just have different view points & priorities than a majority of African Americans.

All history scholars (I freely admit that yours truly is not one), please correct me if I am wrong:

I did some very quick research (on the internet) and discovered interesting facts:

1)  Jefferson Davis was a staunch defender of States Rights.

2) Jefferson Davis didn’t own slaves until he inherited his brother’s plantation.

3) As President of the Confederacy, he proposed freeing all slaves, if they would fight for the South.

I always was taught that the War Between the States was fought more over States Rights than anything else. To this day, we see examples of that between Republicans and Democrats.

Unfortunately, in our larger cities, the incident with George Floyd has given many an excuse to pillage and destroy any and every symbol, and take lives for no reason, except they are angry.

I am attaching a link to a Washington post link that discusses the pros and cons of destroying or taking down statues of controversial figures.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/pulling-down-confederate-statues-is-a-powerful-statement-but-it-wont-erase-the-shame/2020/06/12/59a8aeb0-ac33-11ea-94d2-d7bc43b26bf9_story.html%3foutputType=amp

I also read more recent information about the officer who killed Floyd. He should have been removed from the Minneapolis PD long ago.  The number of complaints, reprimands, disciplinary reports, and suspensions for excessive force in his file was unacceptable. His commander on up should be investigated. In my opinion, the 2nd degree murder charge is warranted.

Please stay safe, everyone. This is a very troubling time in our country’s history.

To both of you, I believe many people who vote Republican do so due to each party’s stand on abortion.

I'm not going to get into the greater debate on race here, but just about any historian will tell you that trying to compare political parties across several decades--much less centuries--is absurd. There have been several realignments in the voting blocs, and major realignments generally occur every 30-50 years, with minor realignments happening even more often. The platform of the parties change partially based on their voting blocs, and the issues obviously change over time. This doesn't mean that the two parties "switch" entirely; it just means that some policy positions shift. Over time, enough of these minor (and major!) shifts occur that the party's platform looks almost unrecognizable when compared with the platform from several decades prior.

Trying to link traits (good or bad) from a party from 150 years ago to the party that has the same name today is, frankly, laughable.

So does that mean linking traits to the Eyes of over 100 years ago is laughable?

In my opinion? Yes, although "laughable" might be too strong of a word since I can't claim to have had the same experiences as other people weighing in on this. But like I said, I'm not going to let myself get sucked into that debate, so that's all I'm going to say on that.

Taking a post from facebook as fact is not something I do.  There are some facts in here but I would like to see sources cited.

For example "though more Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats".  - Where's the source for this?  Is this just an opinion?  What criteria is being measured here?  What does it even mean?  Democrats were in majority of both the Senate and House during Johnson's presidency.  So I'm not clear on the statement.

"We ARE and will always be the Party of FREEDOM & Individual Liberty."  -  Tell that to the kids in cages.

More republicans by percentage voted for the act than Democrats. This is a count, not an opinion. The ONLY criteria is the vote itself. No other criteria would be required. And yes, Democrats held a supermajority.

Jim Crow laws that Obama loved to mention were the product of Democrats.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Crow_laws

The KKK was an organization founded by Democrats to intimidate blacks and keep them from voting and gaining rights.

The GOP is, by historical measures and today's actions, the party of less government and more freedom. The Democrat/Socialists are the exact opposite and proudly hold that stance of more government, less freedom.

It was Democrat-led states (Alabama – George Wallace) who had to have federal troops sent in to insure blacks could attend schools there, and also in Arkansas.

It was West Virginia who elected the Grand Dragon of the KKK to the US Senate – and where the Democrats embraced him for 40+ years. It was Joe Biden who gave the eulogy for the grand dragon at his funeral.

Please tell me you're not hearing any of this for the first time. Have you ever done any research into political history at all?

The Civil War wasn't just about slaves huh. LOL. Yeah it wasn't about slavery, it was about economics. If was economic helpful to have slaves pick your cotton and not have to pay them instead of paying a wage.

The confederacy were losers. They were the aggies at the time. Just like the aggies that didn't like the rules of the Big 12. The south didn't like that they didn't get to keep their slaves and committed treason against the United States of America. We need to change the name of anything having to do with the confederacy losers.
Well, you could have just said "I'm not real familiar with Civil War history" and we'd be just fine. I'd believe you after that post. lol

You're attempting to compare a football conference with the Civil War? lol You did that, not me. lol

Yes, it was a COMBINATION of issues (as I actually said and you were prepared to ignore here) that caused the South to secede. It was the North that decided we needed to go to war over it. But the North had imposed taxes that were enforced nowhere else in the US except the south. They made things pretty difficult and were quite unfair. The North isn't innocent here.

Slavery was part of the combination of reasons, but if you truly want to convince someone you know little about history – go ahead and say it was all about slavery.
