*****GAME THREAD: Texas Tech Red Raiders @ Texas Longhorns*****

Pick and choose the games you want to look at.  Walk off FG to beat Kansas, losing to Iowa State, Baylor, TCU and others are still in there too.  If you want to be elite as a program you can’t have a funk that bogs you down.  You just can’t.
I'm not sure why you're real upset about the Baylor loss. They're 10-1 right now. You didn't mention OU but they're the very same 10-1.

I don't think the Big 12 was as weak as you're making it out to be.

We're not an elite program yet. Its obviously still a work in progress.

Because Texas has far more talent than Baylor. If you think otherwise you’re crazy.  I also think most people felt like worse case scenario was losses to lsu and OU.

Texas has a ton of talent.  Far more than their record shows.  I guess since they beat a 4-7 tech team and scored 50 that everybody is willing to give Herman the benefit of the doubt

This the the problem with planting a 'Fire Coach' flag too soon. Now if Herman turns it around you won't be able to enjoy it due to continually having to prove he should've been fired in the first place. This happened with Mack also, btw, with some never fully able to enjoy the success because they were so adamant he should've been fired after one of the ou losses.

Word of advice, at least give yourself an out. If we win a bowl game then we finish the season 8-5. That's not horrible, even if not where anyone expected when the season began. If they figure some things out then this 4 game slump can be forgotten.

Here's a spotlight example. They have Denzel Mims, a SR. We have Collin Johnson.

One will be AA. The other stays injured.

But when both healthy, I'm still not sure Mims isn't better.

Glad for the win and glad my prediction was wrong. Horns should have and did win by a large margin, after all Tech has not had a worse team and record since 1962.

Wow! Being a longhorn fan means you need to have low expectations.

"Rome wasn't built in a day," Ehlinger said per Jim Vertuno of the Associated Press. "If you had told Texas fans three years ago that we would have seven wins and headed to a bowl game and had a chance to win eight, I think people would be pretty happy...Overall, we did a great job."

Wow! Sam saying things he shouldn't, again.

It was good to see the team we all expected this season to show up today. We saw a 9-3 type team today.

A couple of things I didn't like was the offense constantly running the play clock down to less than 5 seconds. Another slow start for the team as a whole.
Yes they played better today, but there was still blunders and a couple scores left on the field.

I’ve seen enough.  I won’t even be able to get excited about the season next year.  It’s not just the W-L record that peeves me.  It’s how some of the W-L’s were gained.  Yea I get the injuries.  They happen.  Alabama lost 3 starters on D and still won 11.  Teams that recruit well have depth.  This staff hasn’t developed any depth after 3 good classes.

Texas should have depth.  Plain and simple.  Who does that fall on?

There will be no excuse for failure next year. Texas graduates a small class this year and several lettermen come back on both sides of the ball. The Longhorns have started at least 14 first and 2nd year players per Herman.

Example: 3 years ago we hire the hottest coach in the country. 2 of the biggest football hotbeds were fighting over him. We got him. We have had top 3, 5 and 25 recruiting classes over the past 3 years.

3 years ago bailor was known as “rape-u”, and probably should have been given the smu business and shut down. We actually took some of their players AND recruits. Recruiting classes outside the top 25 for 3 straight years.

So who should be better? Injuries be damned.

And I’m a Herman fan!

Sooo if you are comparing Texas to bama and acting like they are at the same stage of program development, then yeah... you have some expectation issues.

I have problems with the depth also, but understand that 3 years is not enough not time to develop a roster full of senior leadership plus experienced backups. We over-achieved a little last year, and that put higher expectations on this season than would normally be expected of a 3rd year HC. Plus he's dealing with the weight of 10 years of frustration from a fanbase.

He also did a poor job this season. Those are Herman's words not mine.

Did he say he deserved to be fired... or do you only use his quotes when you find them convenient?

Yes, he really struggled this season, but as I've said elsewhere he made a young coach mistake by taking on too many tasks... in this instance trying to also be an OC and running this offense by committee thing they had going. That prevented him from being able to see (and likely fell through the cracks in the offensive process) of having receivers behind Collin and Devin ready to step up and play.

Of everything that happened this season I firmly believe the lack of depth (not of talent but preparedness) absolutely brought the offense to a grind the last 4 weeks. He gets a chance to fix this with a new offensive direction.

Strictly recruiting and building depth.  You’ve got to build depth to become elite.  They build depth, have injuries, then plug and play.  That’s how you build elite programs.  Texas can recruit, but hasn’t developed yet
