Kitan Crawford Is A Longhorn

Four star John Tyler (TX) cornerback Kitan Crawford kick started Texas' big recruiting weekend by announcing he is committing to the Longhorns.

Quick Takeaway

At 5'11, 200 pounds Crawford possesses solid size for the position, but also possesses elite level athletic traits as well. Crawford posted a 10.6 in the 100 meter dash during track season and according to Mike Roach of 247Sports, he posted a 40 yard dash time in the 4.4s recently. His long and recovery speed along with fluid hips are two things that stand out to me most on tape, and when you add that along with his ball production (12 PBUs and 2 Ints in 2018) you got you a rock solid template for a cover corner at the next level. Though he projects on the defensive side of the ball at the next level, I like the way Crawford finishes off runs as a ball carrier and it's that kind of competitive and physical toughness that I think will carry over from a physical standpoint. Given that Crawford has split time on both offense and defense, he still has plenty of room for growth as a defensive back and given his physical traits that makes for a high ceiling as a prospect.

Final Thoughts

Credit to the Texas staff for hitting on this evaluation and getting in on Crawford early enough to establish their presence at the top of his list and eventually run away with this recruitment. Crawford is the latest addition to a long list of talented defensive back prospects Jason Washington and Craig Naivar have added to the stables in Austin. With Crawford now in the boat, all eyes will now be on Jahari Rogers for the other corner spot in this class and he is currently on campus taking his official with Crawford. Can Texas shut both of their priority corner targets down in the same weekend? We shall see.

We got caught a little flat footed since the JT coaches announced the commitment a little prematurely. Had to shoot from the hip in between trying to get the kiddo to go to bed.

Crawford and Rogers would be great gets, but are we really writing off Ringo?  I know the momentum has been with UGA, but we seem to lead with his two AZ buddies and he did choose to spend the last weekend before the dead period at our biggest recruiting event...

I hope we are still 100% after Ringo and Ethan Pouncey is a really good CB from Fla. I hope we take 3/4 of those

Ringo is in the class if he wants to be. Much like Bru McCoy, if a player that talented wants in then you find room. I think Crawford could become the nickel take for this class if two other corners want in.

He’s a long shot and since he hasn’t been confirmed as making it in he probably didn’t. Hence why I said in the recruiting thread that he was a maybe.

Pouncey is likely heading to an SEC team even though his brother is in Austin. They are still after Ringo and will still probably get an OV, but it’s an uphill battle.

Crawford is an incredible athlete. Fast. Quick. Agile. Versatile. Strong. He can play a number of positions on either side of the ball, plus return kicks/punts.

BIG time pick up for Herman and another in the line of "he fast" type recruits that he's going after. What I like most is that he's not getting one-trick ponies (just speed). He's going after fast guys who can play. When you look at the speed OU has at WR, then you understand this.

Rogers is the other corner in the class. Ringo is likely heading to Gawga but you take him if he decides Austin is where its at.

Agree that Pouncey is probably heading elsewhere, though we'll be there at the end. Playing with his brother will carry some weight with him, but probably not enough.
