The oxymoron part? I can only go by what I have experienced in life and it has always been a struggle to get out of the hospital in under 48 hours. Just sayin'.

Do we know when he went into the hospital though? I read that he missed coordinator availability earlier in the week, so I don't know that he just went into the hospital yesterday. Plus he might've been receiving treatment for it before going into the hospital.

As someone who used to work on the business side of healthcare I can tell you that you'd be shocked/disgusted at what insurance companies can eff up when it comes to medical care decisions.

Most of the time that I contact our medical care insurance company (Humana), I usually come away with the impression that I have been conversing with a paid rep who has a phone in his/her prison cell.

Insurance companies should seriously be pushed out of the picture with respect to health care. There is no need for a profit-seeking middle-man.

Medical decisions should not be dictated by corporations whose primary responsibility is the bottom line for shareholders rather than a person in need of medical treatment.

Hit the nail on the head!  I had a long talk about with a friend who's working on his MBA in Healthcare and is writing a paper on the rising cost of healthcare and the role insurance plays and wanted my input since I used to work with the crooks.  I sent him one article that proves your point and explains a huge part of the problem.  David Wichman, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, took home $83.2M in total compensation last year, they didn't pay him that for putting the patient's best interest first, they paid him for putting the bottom line first and he did a damn good job.
