Beaumont Enterptrise writer after Newton game...

Eagles outscored opponents 688 to 100, over 15 games. Gave up just 8 pts  in 5 dist  games. First game with Kirbyville cancelled due to Harvey. Unless I’m mistaken their first three games were 4A opponents. Closest win was 14 pts.

My sister knows the families of most of the students. The defensive player is a good student and wants to be a doctor- Corbin Foster. Horns should not overlook a lot of the Eagle players.

Damn, it sucks getting old. Man, did my wife let me have for getting it so mixed up, lol. I'm afraid she ain't let me forget it for awhile.

I can confirm they were great -- we had a great team that year and they beat us in the state championship game in Waco like a drum. Side note Sweeny is the correct spelling.  Bay City which is 16 miles from Sweeny won the 4A championship that year in Austin-- the college coaches said Bay City vs Daingerfield would be the game of the century ! 

You played for Sweeny?

I've interviewed several players from the '83 Daingerfield team in the last few months. I asked a few of them who was their toughest game. Each of them agreed it was Sweeny. Despite the lopsided score, they all said Sweeny was the biggest team they saw all year.

If you did play for Sweeny, I'd be very interested in talking to you a short bit about that game, if you're game. I'm working on a book, looking for lots of perspectives on that season.

Amazing game and ending! I watched the Texas vs Bama game but switched over during commercials and half-time.

I can't stand jerrah but hats off to his grandson and #88 for HP. BTW, does the HP coach think he's Tom Landry with that hat?

Yep, I'm only a few years older than you, class of 69. Son was class of 94. He played basketball for Sherman.

Quick side note. My brother played on the Sherman Bearcat baseball team that lost the state championship that year to South San Antonio who were coached by the great Cliff Gustafson.
