*****Texas vs. Oklahoma State Game Thread*****

1. We look like the teams  we used to beat. They'd find a way to not pull off a win.

2. LHN pointed out after the game... the long pass to Burt and one other sustained drive, were the only two drives of the game.

3. I neither played nor coached, but I honestly don't understand the styles of plays alled on either 1st, 2nd or 3rd downs, especially in the Red Zone.

4. I further do not see the upside to passing where the receiver would be catching it exactly as he's going out of bounds including the side of the end zone. You have to be Tom Brady or Colt McCoy good to do that, and be working with receivers at Jr or Sr level with tons of snaps.

5. This game needed play-action, sweeps, reverses; it needed #13 carrying the ball on sweeps. It needed innovation and creativity, given the O-Line. It needed daring and risk and something outside methodology.

6. While I favor practice being important enough to earn playing time, I also favor players having to prove themselves under life fire in a real game.

7. As to offensive lines, who has a good one anyway? Defenses make O-Lines look bad. That's what ours does. You play with what you have, and if you make 6-figures a year you damn sure as hell figure out plays that work to whatever strengths you have.

8. If the opponent can stop the run, that frees up at least ONE receiver on any down if you're a top OC. There has to be one good coach in America who can figure that out. That's how they get those jobs. Not to be gifted with only All-American lines, but to know what to do when you don't have one.

#7!!!

and

#8!!!

So incredibly true. 6 games in and we are still trying to do the same dumb shit we tried in game 1!

So why do you pay a HC and coordinators truck loads of money if they have no clue how to adjust to what the team is rather than what they want them to be. I agree that the OL is pure trash... that said, they aren’t SO BAD that we have no chance to win games at the end. They are terrible but we have still had the opportunity to win games, late, regularly. We put up enough points to stay in games and the D is a big part of that.

Are you saying that you are happy with Tim Beck? OL or no OL, you are happy with the games he’s called? You’re happy with him running the qb nonstop? No screens, miscalling situational calls weekly, and poor game plans are the norm. I would take anybody at this point... he has proven himself inept on every level. He is paid to gameplan to our strengths, is he not? He does not do that.

Paying a high salary isn't a magic wand. We're less than a year away from losing to Kansas and just played #10 to 13-10. I think I'll take it.

Yes, they are SO BAD. How do we know? Because nobody can run the ball behind them. And nobody is safe with the ball behind them. And no matter what, every play has to start behind them.

I'm saying I'm not judging Tim Beck. How can you? Thats my point. We're lucky we were even in this one. Burt's catch and run was pure luck. After that, what have you got?

We don't have many strengths in this offense because its a jailbreak on every play.

Funny OSU has the same exact issues and they manage a top 10 ranking and a win today.

Tired of the same excuses.

F@#K it, I am tired sunshine terds from some of you.  I got better things to do than to read that f##king stupid shit for another year.

No offense SHA but I am past the rah rah bullshit.  Defense doesnt get a W.  The TEAM gets a loss.  The whole team wins or looses.  Pretty simple.

Lol, DMac, I love ya man. You're mad, I get it. I am, too. Its been a long time, has it not? Well, its going to be a little while more, I'm afraid.

Yeah, the whole team gets a loss. I encourage you to pull out some tape from last year and just remember where we were and realize how different that is.

Not pumping sunshine my friend, just trying to be real.

Yea sorry bud.  I need to step away sometimes.  Just tired of losing.

I don’t disagree with most of that... but we are not the first team ever to have a shitty OL. We don’t attempt screens, short quick passes, and the play calling is incredibly predictable. Those are all things he controls and things that, when used, have proven beneficial. When you have a shitty OL you have to find ways to slow the rush... we literally never do that. He’s not even adjusting week to week. He is running this offense into the same grinder every single week with the same game plan, same result. I’m not saying he has to be perfect but there should be noticeable adjustments to his plan and scheme and there absolutely is not.

My thoughts.

1. I am proud as I can be of this defense. Today, the talk of the football world is our defense. We've come such a long way from where it used to be.

2. Sam, we would not have been in that position at the end if not for you. Don't hang your head. You're a warrior.

3. We had no business being in this game. This isn't a curse. It's a team growing up. We always knew this was the tough stretch in the schedule and no one I know counted OSU as a win.

4. Our punter is da bomb. Just give him whatever hardware they give to punters. His name should already be on it.

5. Boyd played a helluva game.

6. Okafor drives me crazy, but the hold he was called for was not a hold.

7. I hope Hemphill-Mapps is okay. We need that guy.

8. Holton Hill is a complete player. He's not just a cover corner. Kid can stick.

9. Hagar had a nice game.

10. This one sucks because it was right there for the taking. I honestly thought we would pull it out. Doesn't always work the way we want it to. Love my Horns.
I agree. I couldn't see 1st half due to w/shop. Recorded it. What happened to Reggie?  Surprised y'all are down. The mature part of team looks good. The freshmen look better than freshmen have any right to look.

The talk of the football world should be this Longhorn defense. We are good!

Hook 'em!

The odd thing of it all -- if rankings mean anything-- and stats...

Aside from Maryland, we lost three to "top 10" teams, each ranked in the Top 10 the week we played them, each now with 1 loss.

Our losses were by 3 pts, 5 pts, 3 pts. One in double OT, with the lead late in the 4th (very late against USC); one with the lead late in the 4th (OU) giving up the winning score on busted coverage; and one today in OT on a play we like to see others do.

Before last week, OU had scored 31 or more in all previous games.
Before today, Ok-State was 58-1 in games scoring over 30, and for the year up to today their offense put up: 59, 44, 59, 44, 41, 59. Today they get 10 in regulation and settle for a FG in OT.

The heart breaker is that our D outclasses our opponents by a country mile, while our offense is so tepid we look gawd awful toying with a chance to upset a ranked team almost put in our hands by our Defense and punter.

This team will develop a killer instinct eventually if they can get over losing such close games in just this way. It's hell to lose a winnable game against Top 10 opponents when your defense and special teams have done better than almost anyone else they play and you still can't find a way to take it to them.

Beware this team if they get a corral of 4-star studs on offense, JUCOs in the O-Line, and the QBs on the way for 2018 and 2019. But have to say, this one punched my guts out.

We are so close to being 6-1.  Thinking how good we are makes me pee my fruit of looms just a lil.

I dont understand why we are not top 25.

Our defense rocks.  We are good!

With all the freshmen and still barely losing to top 10 teams.  We should get a little credit.  Our defense and heart ranks #1 on the AP IMO

.......................

I tried doesnt work for me.  Cover your eyes now.  We are 3-4 and headed to our perennial .500 record and quite possibly no bowl game if we stumble on game a we should win.  I am watching Bama 7-0 (my wifes school) slobber knock the Vols into oblivion and drooling over their OL.

Anyways, we are good?  No, we are improved but we are not good.

The only ranked team Alabama has played is FSU at the time... who has now lost 4 games. Bama will have played no currently ranked teams on their schedule until LSU and Auburn, until the SEC title game. They certainly should be 7-0.

Horns have lost to three Top 10 (depending on rankings week of the game) each 1-loss teams as of now, by 3, 5 and 3 points. Including two overtime games. Just the way the losses came about after earning a chance to win.

 @Epictetus

I dont like Bama but their OL puts ours to shame.

We were 3/17 on 3rd downs.  Take a minute and let that sink in.   Do you believe Bama losses to OSU?  I doubt it.

You are right we are 25 points or so from being undefeated.  11 of that was just Maryland.  So yea we are close but the record doesnt reflect it

Ahhhh... I prefer reality to the “moral victory” nonsense.

I'm back down to earth. Reality has checked in. Thanks, guys.

Have to say, that was the biggest sock to the gut I think I've ever experienced. The INT that ended it.

Augie Garrido is known for saying "baseball is a cruel game."

How I felt about today's ending.
