Per Jon Rothstein, Jarrett Allen will be entering the NBA Draft without an agent.

Jarrett Allen ends his career with Texas after 1 season where he averaged 13.4pts, 56.6 FG%, 56.4 FT%, 1.5 blocks, and 8.4 rebounds. Jarrett also averaged 32.1 minutes a game.

Jarrett Allen finished his Freshman season with 12 double-doubles.

Because he is not hiring an agent he can technically still come back to play at Texas.

The final date in which we will truly know if Jarrett Allen is going to the NBA will be the NBA Draft combine, which isn't until May 9th. Still a long way to go before early entry decisions truly have to be made/finalized.

I think we were all expecting him to do this, no?  If he leaves, the value of Smart stock in Austin will drop drastically I'm afraid.

I think it is a mistake for him to leave early, but I understand he can't turn down the money. Last mock draft I saw had him either 23 or second round. I saw the aggy freshman was going to stay and he was a top 10 pick. I think Allen needs to reevaluate his situation

I'm tired of the one and done shitshow. Miles Turner's time was a waste, Allen's time was a waste if he does leave. Let these guys go pro out of HS, if they don't get drafted that's their problem. Make the guys who come to campus spend three years like every other sport...major sport prior to being draft eligible. None of these guys care about school anyways, which counters the arguement that these undrafted kids can't get an education after losing eligibility. Once again, their problem and they don't want an education anyways. With that said the system is in place for these freshman to leave and get tons of money so power to them. The system sucks. Now get off my lawn and cut your hair you damn hippie.

That sucks. You had to know this was coming. IMO, Allen came on at the second half of the season. Was he playing for the Horns or for the draft? Or both?

This may seal Shaka's fate. We were already young down low. Now, we'll still be young down low next year.

Almost every mock draft I've seen him go in the first round. He's still really raw but was coming on strong at the end of the year. Good luck to him!

The NBA convinced the NCAA to implement the one year policy; however, the NBA simply wants to see the asset on the court playing against better competition before paying a high draft pick a lot of money.  The NCAA is the loser with this policy as the rule assures of no continuity per team and no building story line and has had a negative effect on television ratings as the championship game the last two years has been dreadfully low.  Advertisers will eventually balk at the money required with viewership fading.

Yes, this stinks and it really hurts the game of college basketball.  BUT it is what it is.  As far as I can tell:  Kentucky, Gonzaga, North Carolina, Duke.... heck Baylor, West Virginia, Iowa State.... all play under the same cloud.  You either recruit 4 / 5 star kids who will be gone after one year like Turner and now Allen or you recruit 3 and lower tier 4 star kids and coach them for three and four years.  I actually thought Rick Barnes was pretty good at recruiting a mixture of the two types of recruits.  But the point is, we need a coach who can win the way things are done!  I don't hear any of the schools above whining about losing their good players after one or two years.

College basketball has become what college baseball has been for years.  The best talent is in leagues that pay.  I honestly don't know what you do about it.... especially now that there are viable "minor league" type basketball teams.  What I do know is the quality of play in college has dropped so far since the 80's that it is almost unrecognizable.

I agree basketball should be under the same rules as baseball. Either go pro out of high school or stick in college three years.

Not to be a bully, but is there any rule in football?  I think players can leave whenever they want, it's just most kids aren't ready physically for the NFL after high school or even a year or two of college.

Doesn't MLB have some sort of agreement with the NCAA that they won't  sign a college baseball player until after his junior year?  I would like to see that in college basketball!

You are not a bully. I am an idiot for not proofreading my post. Of course I meant baseball. I edited my post.

For football, you have to be 3 years removed from graduating high school in order to be eligible for the draft, so in most cases, a redshirt sophomore or true junior.
For baseball, you can declare for the draft out of high school, but if you go to college, then you can't enter the draft until you're 3 years removed i believe
