More injuries for opponents

We talked about the back injury to one of the Stanford ace arms last week. Today D1Baseball.com reports that the Longhorns opening weekend opponent, Rice, has a bit of an injury problem in their pitching ranks.

Junior RHPs Glenn Otto and Willy Amador are both fighting injuries that could keep them off the bump when Rice comes to Austin next weekend (2/17-2/19) for a four-game set to open the Longhorns' season.

Otto has been nursing a sore shoulder. Rice is taking precautions with him in the series against Texas. Reports say that he has not thrown this spring from the mound. He is supposed to get some work off the mound this week and again before Rice travels to Austin. If everything is OK with his shoulder, he will likely get an inning or two against the Horns. All of this is a big 'IF' at this point. Otto is a top 2017 prospect, so his loss is certainly a hit to the Rice arsenal.

Amador is nursing a broken nose caused by a liner to the face. He has not been ruled completely out, but there's talk that his taking the mound will likely be a last-minute call by the staff.

While these are big losses for the Owls, don't think that Rice doesn't have any other arms. They are pretty well stacked in the pitching department with the likes of Junior RHPs Dane Meyers and Ricardo Salinas, true Freshman RHP Matt Canterino and Zach Esquivel.

Just something to keep an eye on as we get closer to Opening Day.

Hook Em!

Not many phrases like 'liner to the face'

Sux for Rice but I'm starving for success and hoping for 3/4 to start the season.

I contemplated using 'he took a blast to the face,' but opted against it.  ;)
