Starting to think that next season might be a lot more difficult than I first thought. I actually felt like 9-3 was where we would end with a shot at 10-3 after a bowl game victory. Now I am a little more concerned as I think Foreman will be missed more than I realized and that the adjustment to a new system and new Coach might show in the early games. I do not see us beating USC, Oklahoma or Okie Lite and TCU will be better next year plus it will be hard to beat West Virginia in Morgantown. With us adjusting to a new Coaching staff and new system I am actually worried that Maryland could be a toss up. We are desperate to build momentum for this program and I really feel we have to get 8 wins even if that 8th victory is a bowl game victory to build from . Anything less could put us in the field of so many other big time schools that have fallen off the map.
Good post. I am mildly concerned because yes, it is a difficult schedule.
Maryland – W – It's Maryland. It's in Austin. It's the Herman debut. I think we put on a good show.
San Jose State – W – This game scares me more than Maryland. SJSU was a good team last year. They beat Cal the week before we lost to Cal. This is not a gimme game. Thankfully, it's in Austin. But it will be close.
USC – L – They were probably one of the top 3 teams in the nation by season's end last year. They lack depth but this year's recruiting class provides relief for them there. We could surprise, but I doubt it. They good.
Oklahoma – W – Herman has proven he knows how to beat Stoops. Texas proved last year that even a pathetic Texas team can come within 4 points of the best Stoops can trot out there.
Oklahoma State – L – The game we should win, but won't. OSU is good and it will be close because we're at home.
West Virginia – W – WVU lost a bunch of talent and have a nice QB who will make them dangerous if he steps it up. So they're a bit of a mystery right now. . . as our we.
TCU – W – Too many weapons lost. QB troubles. IMO, Robinson (recruit from DeSoto) is already their best QB. How long will they toil with Hill?
Baylor – L – We are the most motivational game on their schedule. And they still have talent and now have good coaching to go with it.
ISU, Tech, KU – W's.
While most everything you said was true, your opinion was made without attempting to list the advantages Texas brings to the same table. If Charlie were still coaching, I'd be far less optimistic. You are what your record says you are. Right now, Herman's record says he can turn this thing around fast. Pieces are in place. Talent is here. Now we have a brain surgeon to make it all work.
Yes, I am optimistic. He did it at a place like Houston. He can do it here.
