Big 12 Expansion Project

Do you think the SEC, the PAC 12, the BIG or the ACC would have Texas as a full member if Texas retains the LHN?

I think the only teams anybody wants are Texas and OU. I know there are political ramifications and all but what would happen if the BIG XII imploded and, let's say, the PAC 12 let it be known that they wanted Texas and OU. Next they go on to say that they really don't care what the Texas or Oklahoma legislatures think. Texas has an invite and if they want to come they are welcome to accept. Same for OU. Everybody else is on their own and is not invited to join. That might be the beauty of not having the Aggies around anymore. Texas legislators represent Texas' interest. The Aggies have no dog in the hunt. So basically, Tech and Baylor would try their best to block Texas' acceptance of the invite without their inclusion. Baylor has the political power but are not a state institution. Tech has political power and is a state institution but is not wanted as an expansion candidate. Us little frogs will join the revamped SWC: TCU, SMU, UH, RICE, UTSA, UTEP, Baylor if they are out of other choices and maybe Tulsa, Tulane and Louisiana Tech.

Foreshadowing?

The only way any change will every come to this conference is when the TV money starts reflecting how bad this conference really is. If I was Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN I would hold steady and offer $30 million total for 3 years and if they balked and said they will do their own network then go right ahead because it is going to cost a ton of money and there is no hope there will even be a Big 12 conference in 5 years any way.

Bullshit

We get better ratings than most ACC and Pac-12 games.

Just so long as we don't have another cougar high redox, I'll be happy.

The Big 12 (10) works for me with the round robin schedule. Why add more unimpressive colleges than the Big 12 already has?

Texas has to get it's stuff in order. At some point, the entire college football organization has to change. But until The University of Texas can be counted on to bitch slap the baylor's, tcu's , okie light's, ect. the Horns don't need any expansion / or NCAA reorg.

Texas has to get back to being Texas and it looks like we have more years to get that accomplished, unfortunately.

Yes, Texas has to get back to being Texas. But that is an entirely different issue. We have to do that no matter what conference we're in or not in.

IMO, one day we will be able to point to this day and say "that was the beginning of the end for the big 12."

Let's take a look at the expansion teams from the other Power 5 conferences.

Maryland

Rutgers

Colorado

Utah

TCU

West Virginia

Syracuse

Pitt

Louisville

Question – How many of the above teams were considered "home run" candidates? None. Thats how many. Yet, they ALL added value to their conferences.

Now, all those conferences look down on the smaller, more vulnerable Big 12. And the Big 12 already suffers from being "psychologically disadvantaged" and now they'll suffer because they spent millions and months and months and ended it all in a big fat thud.

The Big 12 seriously needed some excitement and momentum from this. Now, it will get laughs. Until Texas returns to the top, we are nothing more than a glorified Conf USA.

We look very backwards right now. And the fate of the conference has been sealed. I don't see how Texas doesn't suffer as a result.

Somebody please explain to me what makes UH, Cincinnati, & BYU so much worse than -

Pitt

Syracuse

Louisville

Miami

Boston College

Wake Forest

Rutgers

I'll hang up and listen. Please try to keep it fact-based.
