Thursday Chat: All Questions Welcome

Charlie had better win the winnable games. We know he's not going to win a game he was supposed to lose.
they're all winnable. Because of a record setting D and the now expected game management gaffes, we won't win them all. But there's no unwinnable game on the schedule.

apathetic.

And I've come to the conclusion there is no level of humiliation that will prevent Charlie from finishing the season. And I really don't have a problem with that.

I do have a problem that my gut is telling me that 6/6 and bowl eligibility gives CS 2017.
Getting to a bowl definitely saves Charlie.

And my gut is telling me that Charlie is back no matter the record.

While idont mind the BJM getting promoted isn't part if Charlie's problem having such a small circle of coaches he trust or does it just seem that way because of how Patterson cut off at the knee Charlie with his Staff from the Jump?
Exactly how did Patterson cut Charlie off at the knees with his staff?

Good morning, folks!

What's on your mind today? I have some thoughts for you.

D'onta Foreman should have a field day against Iowa State. The Cyclones rank 119th/128 in total rushing defense. The game plan for Sterlin Gilbert should be quite simple.

Speaking of Foreman, he is on pace for a historical season. He has over 500 yards rushing through 4 games (missed UTEP), and is averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Earl Campbell's best average YPC in a season? 5.8.

In terms of defense, Texas ranks 80th in total efficiency, whereas the Cyclones come in at 112th. Unfortunately, Texas did not stop Joel Lanning last year in Ames, and he is posting quite a solid 2016 campaign. Lanning has thrown for over 1,000 yards, with 9 TD and 3 INT. Allen Lazard and Trever Ryen are the keys to this game. If they are alllowed to break free for big gains by the Texas defense, this one could slip away from the Longhorns. Mike Warren has been pretty nonexistent this season, but that could change Saturday if Texas does not game plan to stop the run properly.

If Charlie Strong loses this game, is he fired by Monday morning? As always, all questions welcome. Let me know how you're feeling about Saturday!
Charlie will not be fired during the season. And you can take that to the bank.

And it's highly doubtful that he will be fired at the end of the year. No matter the record.

Exactly how did Patterson cut Charlie off at the knees with his staff?
it's widely known Chatlie wanted to bring in either Tom Herman or Chad Morris as OC when he took the Texas Job and Patterson wouldn't approve the contract Buyouts for either of those coaches if one of those coaches get hired it would have allowed Charlie to be laser focus on D from the jump which with our youth on D last year and this could only have helped Texas

Im starting to think that our BMD's dont have as much pull as we all thought. I know who foots the bills around here however i dont think it matters.

Its time to make a change
Greg Fenves is very pro-Strong. But, the BMDs have the power to pull their donations. That will speak louder than anything.

If We go 6 & 6 and Strong is back we must accept that the current administration has no interest in having a winning football program. We will be the new Vanderbilt.

On a another thought I wonder how long fans will continue to pay the big LHF donations and high season ticket prices. I might have to take a hard look it at myself because if the administration is not committed to being elite what's the point?
I tend to agree. If the team does not improve soon or make the changes necessary to take the next step, donations will fall. I'm about to be an alumni, and don't want to waste my money each year.

Harrison, do you think we have the talent on defense or are all the recruits overrated?  I am tired of hearing the "they are young" excuse.  In your opinion is it scheme or just bad play?
At first, the problem was that Bedford would not play the young players. If he had let the best athletes in the game from the get go this season, the defense would be much improved. Right now, it's young guys lacking experience. I do not think it's a talent issue. They have all the talent in the world. BUT, players are not developing. That is an issue.

If he loses, be careful with that statement. Can't definitively say 'Charlie won't get fired regardless of x,y,z...'

If we win six of our last seven to get to eight wins I will shit a gold brick.
I am not expecting it.

Iowa State - Cautionally optimistic W

Kansas State IN Manhattan, #2 Rushing D in country - L

Baylor - up in the air

Tech in Lubbock - we never perform well there (L)

West Virginia at home - Cautionally W

Kansas - W

TCU - who knows how they will be playing by then

This schedule is not favorable to Texas

I agree and I don't think it matters. I think they're going to bring him back regardless.
If they fire Charlie, I will say this. They will continuously be betting on lower tier coaches. Sure, Tom Herman won a championship at Ohio St. But Charlie won at Florida as well. Herman has not proven to be able to hang with all of the pressure and power of a head coaching position at Texas. No lower tier coach will be able to prove that. It's always going to be a 50/50 gamble.

Okay, fair enough. I will walk back my statement a little bit about him not getting fired regardless of the record.

I think the only way that he's 100% gone is if he wins less than 5 games.

I think it's 50-50 if he wins 5 games.

I think if he wins at least 6 games then he's 100% back.

There are only 2 "sure things", Saban and Meyer.

Everyone else is a gamble.

What ever it is the bar is way too low for Charlie coming back. I'm not sure there even is a bar.
