One of the reasons that I have liked O'Sullivan, O'Connor, and Corbin is their experience with athletes competing at an academically challenging university. The last I checked, Virginia, Florida, and Vandy were pretty highly regarded academically.

Not that I am giving credibility to any rumors or advocating for it, but Rice would seem to be a pretty good fit for Pierce, also.

Rice is a good fit for anyone. A coach can step out in their backyard and find elite talent. This is part of the reason why Pierce would be a good hire, he has connections to the Houston and surrounding areas. 

This is what makes A&M's lack of success mind boggling. It should be easy to win in baseball where A&M is located.

The reason you've seen Houston recently get back on the map is the Houston and surrounding areas are loaded with baseball talent. I guarantee if you go look at Houston's roster it's loaded with players from the Houston area.

By my count Tulane's roster has 8 guys on their roster from the Houston area. Anyone with common sense knows you should try and recruit that area. 

Pierce is most likely getting the 2nd and 3rd tier players from Houston too.

David Pierce is my choice as well.  Born in Houston and attended U of H which should help UT in recruiting one of the top prep areas in the country.  Hitting coach for Rice in 2003, who won the National Championship that year and then moved to pitching coach where the staff was in the top 20 in ERA in the country each year.  Man can flat out coach and love giving guys like this an opportunity.  Hook em!

I have no connections nor do I have inside info but I just saw on the web that Texas is considering UH's Todd Whitting. Thoughts on this guy?

I like Whitting, just a little confused regarding the collapse of the Cougars this year.  It really looked like a team that was set to take a step forward, and just came up empty in conference play.

I'm beginning to wonder if they are interviewing everyone who passes the 'vet' test and has applied, if they meet the criteria. This isn't the way DeLoss did it, but we do have another week until the end of the CWS.

Most of the players are in summer ball, everyone who needs to know what's going on, does, but this is tough!

I think java has the right view on this.  I'm in the same camp; they're interviewing guys that express interest and have some combination of the background, history, results and character that they're looking for.  I also believe that there are not any new offers being made.  This sure has the look of a coordinated plan to find the right guy.

I'm agreeing with Java and Joeywa. I think the "powers that be" have this under control more than people think. 

And I'm sticking to my guns that it's highly likely that it's already a done deal or close to it and that it's O"Sullivan.

When I was asked what type of vacation I wanted when treatment and the school year ended, this was exactly what I chose. It's beautiful and remote, with gorgeous clear water and lots of space. A few close family members will be there, and there are numerous thing to do outdoors. I can even take my Australian Shepard, and he is going! A lot of wide open space and clear water.

While I'm gone, please get this coaching stuff handled? OK?
