ANYTHING SPRING FOOTBALL!!

It's 1 practice in, everyone settle down. Why everyone thinks the QB position was gonna be filled on day 1, is beyond me! I trust that Gilbert can & will find a serviceable QB to run the offense. I've got to believe that 1 of the guys on campus has at least as much talent as what he had to work with at Tulsa. I also believe it's gonna take most or all of spring practice for a front runner to emerge. Hook 'em!

First day of Spring practice under a new system, I'm sure QB wasn't the only issue on offense.
So now the excuse will be "new system" ?  New system or not Swoopes has not shown the mental ability to make good decisions when the pass rush closes in. He also turns the ball over way too much. We have 3 years of evidence that Swoopes is not a plus player at QB. I also have no doubt he will be the starter because he is the best of the worst. Strong better hope Swoopes does something this year he has not shown in 3 years because if not Strong will be gone come December 2016.

Wish I was as confident as Doc, but glad I'm not as pessimistic as Bobby. Burton claims he has no ax to grind with Charlie, but I wonder. Can he even see what seems to be a bias. Pretty critical of a first day. Maybe wait a few days to offer judgement? If asked, he'll say something like "it's my job to report what I see and tell it like it is." Odd.

Excuse? It's the first day of spring practice with a completely different system. If you don't think there are going to be some bumps in the road in practices leading up to the season, not sure what to say.

If "excuse"="fact" then sure.

There were several reports yesterday of Gilbert just sitting back and watching yesterday. We haven't even gotten to the point of a full offensive install. All Gilbert/Mattox are doing right now is trying to figure out what they have.

Apparently Swoopes looked great in practice. So no bumps. That is the problem Swoopes always looks great in practice. But when the lights come on... Well we know.

Like I said lets all hope Swoopes does play better if in fact he does become the starter. If not we know the outcome. Another bad year and a new coach in 2017.

I mean, Swoopes certainly has issues but there were a plethora of other problems that contributed to his bad play.

The idea is that Gilbert's offense is suppose to alleviate some of those problems. Will it, who knows? But I'm certainly not going to make rash conclusions about QB play on the first day of spring practice before the offense is even installed.

I actually think Swoopes is a pretty good fit in Gilbert's system, so guess we will have to wait and see. He's a much better fit than Heard at least.

1st day is way too soon. Let the kids settle in and the coaches see on the field what they have. A couple of weeks from now will be a better time to evaluate.

Burton's report was much more negative than anybody else's (at least from what I read from Scout and IT).

Both Burton and Howe seem to have an ax to grind with Strong. Hell, Burton is the one that argued Strong tried to low ball Gilbert in contract negotiations when that's totally nonsensical and the antithesis of what every other site reported.

Of course we need to take a wait and see approach but lets be honest. What is Swoopes upside? We all know Buechelle in the future and may have to play even though he is not ready either. The bigger issue i'm afraid is Strong may not survive 2016 and we will be doing this all again.

I agree on Heard his days are probably done. He does not have the arm to compete in the new system. I expect him to transfer this summer.

On a positive note the ags actually think they are in great shape at the QB position. LMAO

The fact that the offense got over 200 snaps completed on day 1 is incredible. If they can get 1000 snaps in biweekly. A sure fire QB will definitely emerge sooner than later.

Burt & Johnson are going to be an awesome duo. Now we need to find a QB to get them the ball.

Okay, not that anyone asked, but I'll throw in my two cents worth about the QB position. And, I admit that "two cents" could be giving myself lots of credit as to the actual worth.

I think that the QB coaching/development that we are going to see from Gilbert will be drastically different than the QB coaching/development that we saw for the past two years. Almost to the point that, unfortunately for them, the past two years were "wasted" years for the QB's who were on campus. I think they were coached that poorly.

Because of that, I don't rule out the possibility of ANY of the QB's who were here last year being able to grasp this offense and running with it. I don't include Buechele simply because he's a true freshman and I don't think starting a true freshman at QB is very wise unless he is head and shoulders above the others. Which I doubt Buechele is.

are yall nuts?...The line will be greatly improved just by experience alone, not to mention new blood. Then you throw those 2 giant running backs over, and over, and over....and if Swoopes runs he might be bigger than either of them. What is all this panic over throwing the ball?....why?...ever?

just kidding guys....just kidding!!! I know we have to have someone to throw the ball, but I suspect it will be easier to do than in the last several years.
