Jones is a huge human being, but overrated as a player at this point.  Maybe he will become one some day with the right motivation and coaching

Watch that film of Shackelford I posted back a few pages

Low 3-star Zach handled him, with no help

I really liked the film of Zach Shackelford. I don't understand how he was only a 3 star. I believe he might be able to play this fall. I think that the first step to becoming a really good team you must have both an outstanding offensive & defensive line.  I don't care how talented the backfield is, without time they will look just ordinary.

Careful guys, As I remember, Showtime is a lady.  Don't promise more than you can deliver.   :)

One thing I noticed was he ran a pretty slow 40 time.  Shouldnt matter with OLs but recruiting services rely on measureables alot

He also went up against another highly ranked guy besides Jones -- Rahssan Thornton of Killeen Shoemaker (I think) and played him well too

Killeen that's my hometown, damn i miss it

IT tonight sounding a bit like Burton (posted above) --

"There is more positive noise behind the scenes this year than last year, and while things will prove too good to be true in some regards, this class won't have as many big, close misses it had last year. Sure, there will be a miss or two, but Texas will land many more than it will lose."

Here was the Burton quote

Read together, we have every reason to be optimistic

Burton making some conciliatory remarks about Strong's recruiting --

" .......  So I feel like I can tell whether or not a team's recruiting momentum coming off of a recruiting weekend is real or merely wishful thinking.  The Longhorns' momentum is very real.  What's more, the momentum is happening at the positions of biggest need and with the biggest and best prospects remaining on the Texas board. I don't know how this recruiting class will turn out. No one really does. But I know that I continue to be impressed with Strong as a recruiter. He's going after guys that can make a difference for Texas.  And he's doing it relentlessly.

If he signs another top 10 class, I think it's time for folks who worry about making more early offers to certain players or who think Texas recruiting is disorganized to realize that there's a method to Strong's madness. At the end of the day, recruiting is about getting players into your program, not necessarily how you go about doing it."

Shackelford's measurements, 40 time and so on aren't that spectacular. He's not a camp player.

With that said, he's a damn good player. I've been saying since May we should offer Shackelford. He's the type player Mack would have passed on and he would have been a 3 year starter at K-State kicking our ass.
