2015 Recruiting Thread

At the risk of causing coronaries on this board, I'm going to dump some stuff I picked up talking to a friend this morning. Can't dump it all because some of it is, well, going to cause tantrums if I repeat it.

Source is connected to the staff.

Feeling is very good about Brandon Jones, Stephon Taylor, Eric Cuffee and Jeffrey McCollough.

Staff feels good about Djax, but the thinking is he's FSU bound. Will still take him if he has a change of heart.

Safety out of a school in Alief, named Turner, has caught the eye of the staff. Don't be surprised to see him in this class. Another safety not named Jones is above him on the pecking order, but the ship is about to sail and Turner is moving to the crosshairs. They feel Turner is as good as the other, but they have put more time and effort into the other. So they wait. But not much longer.

Christmas-Giles is maybe 50-50.

There are a number of five star recruits who like Texas a lot and would like to come here. But won't. They point to the year left on Charlie's contract, with no extension, and see potential trouble. The number I was told was 4-5 kids. They really like Charlie. But they don't want to be here one year with him.

The next items are going to be quickies. I won't elaborate more on them so don't ask.

- consulting firm was hired prior to our AD hire. Goal was to help him in adjusting to new role. Scope expanded to cover other areas, including football program. Resulting report was not good. Biggest hang up seems to be organization and the handling of a large, large program.

- Contract was signed and issue thought to have gone away. It has not. We continue to cultivate a relationship, for just in case purposes. Not a sure thing if the call gets made. Other big names are also maintaining contact.

- Charlie really needs 8-9 wins next season. Think Walmart parking lot, Friday Night Lights movie.

- Dodds may be retired, but he hasn't stopped working. He was involved in getting the consulting firm. Other firms were also contracted, but were doing other things at UT not related to football.

- The aggy train wreck is even worse than anyone here has suggested it is. And I think I've seen just about everyone thoughts on this LOL. It's bad. Really bad. And it has really helped us on the recruiting trail.

My note-taking wasn't as fast as his talking, so I may have left something out here. I'll post that stuff as my memory allows. But I think I posted most all of it that I feel I can post.
Have to says it's always a good read by SHA. Including "uh-oh" side of things.

Guess it's tone of voice and delivery. Which I'm keen on and pay attention to.

Thanks for the info!!  Intriguing.

Saw this posted on another board. Very good analysis.

Let's take a look at the 2015 class three weeks to signing day, as well his last two full cycle Louisville classes.

2015
22 out of 29 recruits had commited to Texas by now
7 commitments in last 3 weeks (Five 4 stars, two 3 stars)
76% of the class had been committed by the 3 week mark

In 2013, Charlie's last full cycle at Louisville, he signed 18 players. 14 of the 18 prospects had committed on or prior to the three week mark, which was 78%, which is in the same ball park as his first full class at Texas.

In 2012, he signed 22 players. 19 of the 22 recruits had commited on or prior to the three week mark, which is 86%.

Right now, we have 13 commitments. If the program wants to take 25 players, that represents 48% of the class remaining, which would be in outlier in his career and likely an outlier number amongst a lot of major programs.

I'm not sure if it's logical at this point to expect the program to get 50% of its commitments in a three week time span. It wouldn't surprise me if we end up with about a number around 20, and even that's a higher % close than normal for Strong.

I feel pretty confident its over 20

Maybe it wont reach 26-27 like has been speculated

But 24-25 seems more likely than 20

And, as with all things, we will see

That's good information. Doesn't mean we don't fill the class though. It's nice to get them committed earlier but I think recruiting in general is changing. These kids are all about getting to announce on television and/or NSD now. With all of the social media following and etc., I think these kids are enjoying the will he/won't he side of recruiting a lot more. Many of these kids we're going after have suggested they want to wait until NSD. Not much you can do about that.

Along same lines as above^ -- we have moved Whaley's OV to the last weekend

Pretty bold move

The kind of thing only confident people do

These next few weeks may be too much for the ligth-hearted

No RB visiting the big recruiting weekend of the 15th, Kyle Porter visiting the weekend of the 22nd, and Whaley visiting the weekend of the 29th.

Higdon still thinks we're taking two RB's.  So either he's confident that they're flipping Whaley after getting Porter to commit - or there is a RB that no one is talking about that he's confident Texas is going to sign.

And I agree - there is no way Texas only takes 20 kids this cycle.  Those numbers about historical trends for Strong are largely meaningless when it comes to this cycle.  Just so happens this year that Texas is in on a bunch of guys who are saying they want to announce on NSD.

Per 247

Texas recently extended an offer to Ryan McCollom the current Aggie commit.

McCollom says he has a good relationship with new OL coach Mike Mattox and that Texas was his dream school.

Will not take an OV to Texas

Wickline turned out to be a real disaster for Texas.

Solid to aggie

Here is the zinger..

McCollum is solid to Texas A&M, and his experience with former Texas offensive line coach Joe Wickline
turned him off of UT for good

“Whenever Coach Wickline was there, I took the ‘dream school’ part out of it because I didn’t want to play for Coach Wickline,†McCollum said.

Yuck

I wonder if the same applies to JPU?

Is Lucky still on?  Sounds like he already knows where he is going.

But Arnold, Whaley and Acy for the last weekend is some pro poker playing strategy

It's one of the things that makes this cycle so interesting.

Charlie is painting with broad brush strokes this year

Lucky's OV hasn't been canceled yet - but Higdon has all but said that Lucky is going to Vanderbilt.

I wonder why Deontay Anderson has been an Ole Mi$$ lean for so long?

They already have Jaylon Jones, recruited as corner but played S at Allen

They also have Greg Eisworth, played QB/S at SPG but recruited as S.

That's three potential Safety's w/ Anderson.
