Its time to fire Strong

IMHO, our expectations for this year were too low. Worst case scenario, this year should have been 6-6 and best case scenario 8-4. And it is not unreasonable to believe that we could be 7-3 right now as the Cal, OSU, and WVA games were all winnable despite how young this team is. 

For me, I don't care for the thinking that we need to just wait until Charlie gets his players in here. The team he has right now and the team he had last year IS his team. He knew, or should have known, exactly what he was getting into when he took the team. I didn't really care for him saying something about just wait until he gets another recruiting class. To me, he was just making excuses. 

If this team finishes 4-8, I think that will be a colossal failure. While I really think he should get a 3rd year, I wouldn't have a problem letting him go after a 4-8 year.

I understand 4-8 is terrible but between 6-6 and 4-8 is only 2 games.  We could have easily had those 2 wins vs Cal and OSU (refs).  

This biggest disappointment is the way we have lost some of the games.  Shutouts and wide margins that hurts more than the overall record.  Add the fact that Strong is 0-11 when the other team scores first.

This is where I stand, I posted this on OB.

Personally, I'd like to see where it goes with his players in house. Regardless, I'm thankful for the culture change and the value he has put on education.

I want to see Texas win in a bad way, but I'm also willing to give Strong four years to see the process transpire. If you thought we were going to be a good football team or even be highly competitive in 2015, you were fooling yourself. If they fire him and hire another coach, so be it.

I picked Texas to go 6-6 preseason, I think they'll go 5-7. My expectations weren't misguided.

Thus far 2 games from 2014 and 3 games from 2015 have gotten under my skin. The irritation is there, but I also believe in the process.

Fair assessment. My biggest concern is the blowouts. 9 games with at least 18 point loss.  Strong will probably get 2016 but I don't think he survives after that. 

 
If Mack hadn't stayed for 4 years too many after the NC loss & let the program wallow in mediocrity, maybe Charlie could've turned it in 2 years. I think the biggest problem Charlie faces is that we had already endured 4 horrible seasons before he came & the fan base is beyond ready to be competing for Big 12 championships & NCs. Our collective patience is shot! I appreciate all the great seasons & memories from Mack's tenure, but he surely didn't do the program any favors on the way out! I hope the powers that be keep Charlie in place for at least 4 seasons to see what he can truly do with the program. Hook 'em!

The "fact" I am reporting is that the BMDs want Charlie out. And yes, I can report that as fact because it is factually correct. They want him out because in their OPINION he is not fit for the job and has proven it.

What kind of factual evidence can you have to represent an opinion? I'm not sure what you're asking for here.

IMO, you've made this way more complicated than it really is. I had a conversation who is a donor who hangs out with other donors. They carry a lot of weight with decision-making, collectively. Especially when they are united in their thought.

I stand by what I told you two weeks ago. Why? Because that claim has been substantiated again by the same source, and also confirmed by an entirely different source who doesn't even know the first source.

There will be no firing, that much I can tell you. And Charlie will be gone if he loses these last two. You're free to believe whatever you like.

Ok, I'll respond to this.

Yes in fact, Perrin DID leave his practice to come and fill the role until a new hire could be made. He is an interim. And interims do what they're told, when they're told.

This is not Perrin's decision to make. He may announce whatever, but make no mistake, he's just driving the bus where he's told to drive the bus.

I cannot confirm or deny the asshole status or whether or not they have private planes. Neither of those things really matter anyway though.

Reporting they want him out is much different then saying he is out. For example if someone I knew who was close to the program (source) told me I want Strong out and many people I talk to want him out I would not report Strong is out. I would say someone close to the program/BMD wants Strong out but who knows how it will play out. Also for the record other mods at other sites have said regardless of how the season ends Strong is 100% back. So again this all my opinion and this is a message board you can post or report anything you like. Have a nice day.

Again - bullshit.  I never said it was all Perrins decision to make - what I said was that Perrin isn't going to allow the boosters to control what decision is made.  Fenves and by extension Perrin are too smart to kowtow to a group of boosters on a major decision like this - whether the boosters are willing to pay the 15 million or not.  It sets a bad precedent that neither the Pres or the interim AD want to set.

Perrin isn't anyones puppet and he certainly didn't take the position so that he could be told what to do.  But like any good leader he's going to take the pulse of the room and he's going to take input from eaveryone involved - but he didn't come here to be a play thing for assholes with even more money than him.

How else will Strong "be gone" if UT doesn't fire him? We're counting on Strong's love affair with Miami so both can save face?

I don't see how this plays out without UT cutting ties first

Put it however you like. You're wrong. Perrin is there because why again? Because Patterson didn't cater to the BMDs and did things they did not like.

Now, exactly WHO do you think put Perrin where he is in the first place?

If you're suggesting Perrin would be smart, I would agree. Use your common sense for a moment. Would an "INTERIM" AD make a hire or a firing on his own sweet call?

Perrin is EVERY BMDS PUPPET and he took the position to drive the bus until a new AD could be hired.

As far as assholes go, just leave that alone because 1) I don't care if they are, 2) it doesn't matter, and 3) you shouldn't care, either.

Nobody on this board wants to keep Charlie more than I do. You saw and read all my posts where I defended him and keeping him over the past weeks. I am not enjoying what I'm posting here. But I'm also not going to withhold something like this simply because it doesn't help what I want.

I was hoping someone would catch that. You're right and I was right. He would not be retained elsewhere at UT. And he would not be fired.

I wish I could say more, . . money is the operative word. Lots and lots of it.

 
So they are going to pay him to leave. They want him to leave because in their mind he failed. So he is getting paid for failure. I guess that will be our selling point to the next coach. Look if you suck after two years will pay you to leave. It's a win/win situation.

He can semantic it up all he wants - but Strong has a guaranteed deal so whether they fire him or they 'convince him to leave' he is getting paid 15 million at least.

I have no idea what the purpose would be of paying Strong to resign - when perception will be that he was fired regardless of how they spin it.  Its going to look terrible - and will come off worse than if they just fired him outright.

If Texas allows Red McCombs to pony up 20 million to get Strong to walk-away, ridding Texas of the first African American Head Coach in its history and a guy Red described as a position coach (going to love that public relations hit), then Texas will have officially lifted its skirt, opened its legs, and whored itself out to any booster willing to pay for a ride.
