8/11 Practice Report

McNeal has the potential to be the most influential pass catcher on the team.  He isn't comfortable with his hand on the ground at this time as evidenced by the 3 on 3 inside drill where Hager abused him; however, as a slot receiver which could motion and down block, his potential is through the roof.  There is no LB in the Big XII that can cover him on a crossing route.  I hope he and Swoopes develop continuity.  Big fan of moving Bluiett to TE as this should provide help to the OT's and hopefully help the running game.

Duke Thomas on Hill (6'3) and Davis(6'2) --

"With these big corners we've got now, there are no fade routes."

Jesus Shuttlesworth's Big Cigar thinks that D'Onta Foreman is currently the best RB on the team and Connor Williams already the best player on OL.

Scipio weighs in on the move of Blueitt to TE

http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2015/8/24/9203789/former-de-caleb-bluiett-moved-to-te

This is an interesting, somewhat unexpected move, but it tells us a few likely things:

1.  Caleb isn't fully back from his knee injury.  We didn't expect he would be. You need confidence to put weight on joints at severe angles while rounding the corner with a 300 pounder pushing on you and I think Bluiett is missing some mobility and explosiveness in that task.  A more linear role could suit him.  Because that's how he'll be utilized at TE...

2.  The Longhorns don't have a hand on the ground TE with the size and tenacity to block a DE.  We also need a legit big body who can help our offensive tackles in pass protection at the LOS.  DeAndre McNeal can't stop a 265 pound college DE.  Caleb goes 6-4, 255+, has retained his basic strength and has some experience at the position previously. This makes sense.

3.  This also tells us that the coaches are happy with N. Hughes, Bryce Cottrell and Derrick Roberson.

4.  We're adopting a best 11 philosophy on either side of the ball. There's no use having #42 on the bench at Fox DE when he can help us at TE.

Blueitt is taking the move in stride.  I feel bad for the young man that an injury took him from a promising path at DE. Hopefully, he can grow at TE and be a contributor for us.

We think alike.

Swooped may be looking good in drills and even semi-live 11 on 11, but SMH.....I just am not sold on him being mentally tough enough to handle a LIVE game situation.... Going live in practice with a black jersey on ( KNOWING you can't have your clock cleaned ) is a thousand times different than game action. We have seen game action and it wasn't pretty. I so hope my feelings are all wrong, but some guys are only great practice players. They do drill work like a boss and look great when they know they can't get the crap knocked out of them, only to crap and fall back in it when the lights come on and the nut cutting begins. I've seen it on every level from middle school on up.......I know we hear how much Swoopes has improved and all that, but its practice and the 2014 Baylor game keeps playing in my mind; not to mention several other horribly ugly plays throughout 2014.

I see a "Simms/Applewhite situation" similarity here. A big strong strong armed kid vs a guy that may not look the part ( doesn't throw a pretty ball ), but is a winner........On the other hand we just may not have anyone worth a flip at the QB position......Who knows....We will see Sept 5th, 19th, and all of Oct.......

A great series of Foreman highschool gifs here from Ryan Bridges

Will only take you a few moments to watch them all

You'll be glad you did

Sorry Bob if you didn't get the memo, Du'Vonta will be unavailable this year.

Bob Stoops unsure about Du'Vonta Lampkin's status with Texas

OKLAHOMA CITY - OU freshman defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin got on the field with the Sooners on Wednesday, and the snippet of video he shared was impressive.

Lampkin posted a video of himself on Twitter (which was promptly deleted) in which he was pushing junior college transfer Jamal Danley several yards into the backfield. Danley was lined up at left guard and Lampkin showed a quick jump off the snap.

"Cant wait to get in pads," Lampkin said in the caption above the now-deleted video of OU practice film.

Lampkin certainly has the power and size at 6-foot-4, 306 pounds to make an impact alone the Sooners' defensive line, but the question remains if he'll actually be eligible to play for OU this season. Lampkin was cleared to practice yesterday, but last weekend Texas coach Charlie Strong said he would not release Lampkin from his letter of intent. Lampkin signed with Texas in the Class of 2015.

I'm confused here..Primal D _ What do they mean by cleared to practice?
It means that he's a Sooner and he can practice with the team. The only question is if CS will release him then he can play this year. Charlie has already stated that he won't release him, so he's not eligible to play this year.

I guess Stoops doesn't read the papers.
