"Silence at Baylor"

Ukwuachu said Briles and Baylor knew about his issues. Someone is lying here.

I'm assuming that what this tweet overlooks is that Ukwuachu says "Baylor knew everything" means that Baylor knew what he admitted to at Boise State - which I believe was that he was depressed and suicidal, and had anger issues as a result. I suspect that is what he references in his comment.

Doesn't matter in my opinion. No doubt Briles talked to them and knew exactly what he was getting. I just can't believe otherwise. And if he didn't he should have. One is as bad as the other.

I think it's more referring to pass incidents of violence towards women.

I think Briles absolutely knew about that past. A Freshman All American was dismissed and Baylor just willingly took him with no investigation into why he was dismissed? Nah, I can't see that.

I will be interested in what Chris Peterson has to say about this.

Baylor's Art Briles addresses Sam Ukwuachu situation, defends school

Baylor defensive end Sam Ukwuachu was found guilty Thursday night in a sexual assault case from 2013. On Friday, coach Art Briles addressed the situation and disputed claims that the school and program had mishandled Ukwuachu's case.

"It's unfortunate for everybody concerned," said Briles, according to ESPN's Max Olson. "That's really about it. Our timeline was followed by what the standards were here."

Ukwuachu transferred in to Baylor in 2013 from Boise State, where he reportedly had been accused of being abusive toward his girlfriend. Baylor allowing him to transfer in despite those allegations was among the chief criticisms of the school. Briles claimed he was never made aware of any prior incidents at Boise State, saying "there's no truth" that the school or program knew.

"I talked with Chris Petersen personally," said Briles. "No mention of anything beyond Sam being depressed, needing to come home.

"We're always going to make sure that a guy is worthy of that opportunity."

That statement conflicts the report made in Texas Monthly's deep dive into the case, which stated Baylor's coaches "knew everything" about what happened at Boise through conversations with Boise State officials.

Ukwuachu claimed after the transfer was announced that Baylor's coaches “knew everything†about what happened in Idaho; and, as indicated by court documents obtained by Texas Monthly, the two programs had some communication regarding Ukwuachu in which Boise State officials expressed reticence about supporting the player's efforts to get back on the field.

It's always interesting to hear stories from those who were opposing Stephenville in those days. Outside of Brownwood, my only connection to Stephenville's history was Stephenville itself.

There were definitely a lot of folks who felt those teams were shooting up. Obviously, I can't say for certain either way. I can tell you that program to this day denies it vehemently. Don't get me wrong, I still root for the Jackets. But even I when looking back on the footage of those old Stephenville teams have to admit that it looks like men against boys.
I was at the game vs. Sherman that North Texas Golfer is referring to and also saw the sign.  It was common knowledge back then and led to some high school programs which were losing to Stephenville in the playoffs, to "up their enhancement" game and began to beat the Jackets from that point on.  I know one of the Jackets top players who committed to A&M failed a drug test his freshman year as I seem to recall confirming to other schools that their suspicions were true.

IMO, you're overreacting. UT took a risky player, Dez Harrison, among others.

If it turns out that Briles really did know what happened at Boise, then he willingly over looked a woman abuser.  And it really doesn't matter what UT did.

Briles knew Ukwuachu had problems, but there's no evidence that Boise State ever divulged the reason (s) for his dismissal. To his credit, Ukwuachu never played a down last season while eligible because of the indictment. What else can Briles do? He's just the football coach.

He is a highly paid employee and upper management of the university.  As such, he has responsibilities beyond just being a coach.

I do agree that BU and Waco PD did a sloppy, half-assed job in their investigation of the sexual assualt. To your point, the victim's parents should sue BU. This shouldn't happen at a "Christian" school.

IMO, this was a cover up.  At best a stone walling.  Baylor needs to be sued into the dirt.

My guess is the BU administrator in charge of Title IX compliance, Beverly McCraw, will be fired for willful negligence. They need a scapegoat.

For sure the ones that need to be fired, Briles and the AD, will skate on by.
This abuse of women, in sports, has got to come to an end.  An example has to be made.  This bastard should get the maximum penalty of 20 years.

The next one that abuses a woman should get 20 years as well,  And the next one after that.  As many as it takes until the low lifes get the message.

Enough is enough.

Agree with that. And what do we do about the enablers like Briles and probably Bennett?

Briles is screwed now.

Coaches protect coaches. I haven't read Peterson's statement yet. Assuming Schlabach isn't blowing it out of proportion, this is about to cost Briles and Baylor.

I've been reading through BearsTruth on 247. On one hand, I'm finding it despicable to see the wild amount of justifying on Briles behalf that is being spewed. On the other hand, I honestly feel really bad for their fans. The repercussions this could have on their program could send them right back into mediocrity. Obviously that is nothing in comparison to justice for a young woman who was severely violated and wronged. But from a fan perspective, I do feel bad for the Baylor fans that the administration has more or less screwed them over.

I tried to write that as delicately as possible given the sensitive nature of the topic. Hopefully you guys understand what I'm saying.

A certain mod on that site should be embarrassed for victim blaming and essentially calling her a "slut". I haven't seen him post all day so maybe he's already been punished by 247.
