RE: Rick Barnes

I don't think this will end well.

Barnes is stubborn when it comes to his assistants. He's very, very, very loyal to his coaching staff.

Barnes will resign before he starts firing guys like Lanier, Springmann, and Ogden.

Arizona St basketball is a chronic underachiever -- made the NCAA only 3X in last 10 years (once losing to us even)

Always thought they should be better

Why?

That's kinda like saying aggie should be better because of the hoops talent in Houston and TX

Patterson seems content "firing" loyal fans but when it comes to earning his keep, it seems he is a bit gun shy.

Have you ever spent time there?

The "bar scene" is world class, if you know what I mean

Collieville is not really in the same universe

Let's play this out. Barnes whacks his assts to save his ass and get another year. Which top shelf assts do we attract to work in that environment?
I'll be shocked if Barnes fires any of the 3 assistants I listed above.

That's why I actually find this news encouraging. There's a reason Barnes and Patterson have already met multiple times and this hasn't already been resolved.

You basketball season ticket holders are about to get a price hike. I can smell it. But you'll get loyalty points so there's that. Which is nice.

Yes, I am pretty disappointed in Steve over this

Coming in, I had questions whether he could get football turned around

But I was pretty confident he was on top of the basketball side

Appears that assumption was incorrect

Sure, I used to travel to PHX on business and enjoyed staying in either Scottsdale or Tempe.

Not trying to be argumentative, but ASU doesn't have any hoops history to speak of. Conversely, Arizona has been very good for a long time. Seems like the Wildcats would be 1st choice for what little in-state talent exists. Yeah, they should be able to get LA and CA leftovers after UCLA, USC, Stanford, SDSU, and UNLV have taken their picks.

perhaps but coaches have thrown assts overboard before to protect 7-figure jobs.

Seriously, unless you are an unemployed college asst. basketball coach, why would you sign up with the risk you might only be there a year or maybe two?

Jeff Howe over at 247, "From what I've been told I don't think Rick is making staff changes regardless. It's becoming pretty clear where this is heading, IMO."

Yep......
