2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

I dont think we land Lodge but SHA thinks we do

I am not willing to bet on it, as I am just guessing + I will be happy to be wrong on that (sometimes its good to be wrong)
well if we are both wrong we both need to take SHA out for a steak dinner

to tell you the honest tuth Juan the only main committment announcement im wondering about is the Daylon Mack announcement thats IT in a good way

Kid ran a 4.39 40 and had a 40 inch vertical at 225 pounds.  He runs down so many plays from the backside in his hudl film that its ridiculous.  And he's strong enough to stack an OL and toss him to the side and make a play.

Ridiculous talent.  Can't wait to see him starting this fall.
A super secret mole contact I have, buried deeply within the bowels of Bellmont, has told me that MJ's REAL 40 time was 4.5 and his weight 215.  That makes more sense, right?  Still damn good.

What recruits, in particular, are you disappointed with from the 2014 class, Harley?

Locke can't be a stiff if Oregon offered him.
I really don't like to go there, but since you asked -- and 2014 Texas coaches were behind the 8 ball as they were hired late in the process -- but here is 1 last week offer made by Coach Strong last year that seemed to me to be just career UT scout team or bench warmers:

Elijah Rodriguez - was not even in top 1,000 Composite ranking nationally - he was last minute offer and flip from powerhouse Colorado -- low rated 3-star at .8166 .... Did not receive an offer from Texas until Feb, 2014.

No. 116 OT nationally by Scout … No. 118 OT nationally and No. 176 player in Texas by 247Sports

... again Locke did not receive any offers from aggies or ou or pretend-DBU LSU

Locke is number 761 and would be UT's 4th lowest rated recruit in 2015 (and the others lower have special considerations (Legacy, OT, and QB Merrick) -- I see no special considerations for Locke other than to fill space on the sidelines)

IMO, there are just better needs

Bobby feels pretty good in saying that we get Warren, Jamabo, Locksley, and Baker.   The rest are toss-ups in his opinion, and we won't use all 31 spots as Charlie is still going to save one scholarship for a QB - be it grad transfer or something else.

Here is a few random thoughts from me and a little behind the scenes info that I have gotten 7th hand.

We need to quit stressing about our QB situation.  It is going to be just fine this year.  With the slight caveat that one QB is game inexperienced and the other needs to grow up a little.

We have two COLLEGE QB's that have already gone through a year of Charlie Strong and Watson.

The two QB's will be good enough.

The key improvement must be our OL and receivers.  As much as I loved Jaxon Shipley, he was no game breaker.  He was a 3rd down sure thing and that ain't bad.  Basically, he caught the ball and fell down.  In fact, we had no game breakers last year - not in our receiving corps.

But we will this year - oh, will we.

Our RB situation will be MUCH better this year.  In fact, it is not even a given that Gray finishes as a starter by the end of the year.  Yeah, you heard it from me.  I'll give you a little doctoring advice.  A torn Achilles injury is EXTREMELY hard to recover from - much less to the condition before it was torn.  A SNAPPED tendon is next to impossible to recover from.  To me, it is a miracle that Gray even played last year.  A testimony to his hard work and his doctors.

Defensively and no matter how much we like him, a walk on should NEVER be a starter at safety for the University of Texas.  He, along with our OL, was simply a patchwork remedy and a testament to poor recruiting and evaluations..

Brown and Hicks cannot be replaced - it's as simple as that.  At least this year.  So we will take a step back, defensively, in this area.  Even with Mack - who I know we will get.

So my prediction for this year is that we will definitely improve on offense (could we do any worse?) and we will take a step back on defense.  We will beat OU but lose to both TCU and Baylor, again.  In fact, that is my way too early prediction - 9-2

Trap games - OSU and WVU

I don't think Strong and Staff use the scouting service rankings.  Its fine to use them - but when you're talking about the 700th ranked versus the 1100th ranked - does it even matter?  How many people actually saw those kids play?  I sure as hell didn't.  You know who did though - Texas coaches.

Just like the NFL draft - when you start getting into the lower rounds you are looking for people who fit your system.  They might not be the highest rated - but they are kids who know how to play and fit into the scheme you run.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, or call you out, but i can't stand all the pissing and moaning because some kid is ranked the 1000th best prospect and 'Texas should get better than that'.  So what if the kid can actually play, do we ignore him because the scouting services weren't sold?  Its all a bunch of subjective nonsense - and any of us trying to do any real evaluation based on a 4 minute hudl highlight film is an absolute joke.

The 'Charlie Strong is falling int bad/Louisville habits' is an absolute joke.  This is a guy who recruited top flight talent at FLA (with Urban Meyers help of course) and turned around a cess-pool at Louisvile with solid recruiting that produced multiple first round picks despite never raising any higher than 29th in ranking with Strong as HC.  Strong recruits football players and hires coaches who can develop them.  Texas gives him an opportunity to recruit kids he could of only dreamed about at Louisville - but he's still looking for football players.  And sometimes football players aren't ranked in the top 200.

I wont argue that 2014 was a good class, but I think Elijah R. is on Wickline.  That was his call.

In his defense, and Strong's overall, they not only came into a tough position for the 2014 class, but they came in late.

Higs is still in that chat, and lately he has been going off on Muschamp.  His position is that as a recruiter and evaluator of talent, Strong blows Muschamp away and it is not close.  He gives several examples of Muschamp mistakes.  Then he points to drafted guys Strong recruited who were not rated highly in recruiting.

Muschamp can't evaluate talent when going head to head with Strong, not even close....that topic is honestly laughable...and its the same as far as developing the kids.....WIDE gap between these two..no question imo....all I need to do is look at each four year run at Louisville and Florida....its not comparable
To bring it back home, if Strong thinks Locke can play, then he probably can.

Nicholsen was a 2-star coming out of high school.  But dude is an absolute giant and Wickline has had success with guys like that in the past.  And we desperately need OLs

Merrick has alot of upside and is a grayshirt in a class of 31.  We need QBs.   He is smart kid who has orange blood and who may have helped us land Soso.   I dont see much to complain about there.

Hager - OK.  I dont have a prediction there (but Gary Patterson could probably have turned him into 2nd team All-Big 12 by his senior year).  We will see.

Bingo.  What do you do for a shaky QB - you give him a bunch of giant targets with huge catch radiuses to throw to.  Heard is going to have his pick of long-armed 6'2+ WR's to throw to.  Add in Clarington as a TE 'security blanket' and we should see some productivity from this offense.

Coaches are obviously aware of the OL issues, and its why they went so hard after JUCO and EE prospects.  I expect we'll see improvement this year because of talent, development, and an offensive scheme change.

His dad played well for us and his older bro kicked ass at Baylor.
